Dawson's power is deceptive. Unlike Bute Dawson has been fighting live competition the last couple years. Tarver, Glen Johnson and Tomas Adamek all have amazing chins. Bit different then the Zunigas and Joppys of the world. He'd have to do some work to get inside, he has arms like a baby T-rex.
How is that a bad list? Haye, Bradley and Wlad are eye catching, but there is an argument for all 3. Bradley is viewed as the best 140lber. Haye is a cruiserweight who won a strap at heavy, and Wlad's dominance is unquestioned. Other then that its solid.
13. Martinez - you've got to be frigging kidding me. If he hadn't almost beaten Williams, you wouldn't have put him that high up. 14. Alexander - ??? Clearly, you're ranking him on the basis of perceived talent rather than actual accomplishments. So why is Froch so high then? Why is Pavlik? Must be because of what they've actually achieved, not because of their perceived talent. You're ranking Haye above Wlad, but Haye could no longer compete at CW, so must be ranked solely as a HW these days. Are you saying you would take him against Wlad? Then you've got guys like JMM and John...they are ranked very high but on the basis of what recent performances? The thing about p4p is that you have to be consistent. Either you base it on what they've achieved already or on how good they are right now. You cannot mix and match as you see fit, to get your favourite fighters in there, like Gamboa... who hasn't achieved anything yet.
how can a guy say in the same thread that Dawson is only second best to Floyd and then say that Pac is better than Dawson and then rank Pac ahead of both Floyd and Dawson.
Martinez is a great talent who is extremely skilled and arguably beat a P4P fighter in Williams. I look for him to give Pavlik hell in their match up. Alexander is the unified champ at 140 he has 2 belts. The guy boxes beautifully and has sneaky underrated power. Not to mention he's only 23 years old and will get even better. If anything he's underrated.
Bute has a better chin (very probably) Bute is definitely the better body puncher (it's not even close) Bute is definitely the better ring general and tactician (because he is much more intelligent than Dawson) Bute hits harder and picks his punches better, so he is a more effective puncher (Dawson is not a puncher at all, really) Bute probably has more heart and will to win too ...so schooling Bute 12-0? I don't think so.
Pac is the consensus P4P right now. It doesn't mean I think he's better than PBF or will beat him. By not ranking him first I lose credibility. Also you have to add accomplishments into the equation and Pac is more accomplished than Dawson even though I think Dawson is more skilled. So when you add up accomplishments and skill level Pac beats Dawson.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlmiYBKClfc[/ame] Dawson clearly had Adameks respect with his punches, at 5:25 Dawson lands a counter right that sends Adamek into retreat. A guy who takes punches at heavyweight.
You've got a thing for skilled/technical, athletic fighters (who just happen to be American) and that is fine, but you have to be consistent. You have to rank either on perceived ability right now or on past accomplishments. You cannot mix the two. Also, you've ignored plenty of talent from the lower weights, just because they're not very popular/well known. It's very hard to do a good p4p list, though, I agree.
Screw the street cred, man! You gotta be honest, otherwise you lose any credibility you think you have. You think Dawson is a better fighter than Manny Pacquiao? Honestly, what do you think?
I don't know if it really helps your arguement when you state that Dawson has been fighting live bodies, and then name Tarver and Johnson, two guys that 45 year old Hopkins beat much more impressively than Dawson ever did. Not that Bute is Hopkins, but it's just that Hopkins beat Johnson about 15 years ago. Tarver and Johnson aren't exactly LIVE bodies. But yes, Bute does need to step up his competition, but there will plenty of opportunities after the Super 6 is finalized.
but if you forget about losing credibility. Do you think that Pacquiao is a better boxer than Dawson or not? I understand if you think Dawson is better technically (I don't) but I mean OVERALL when they get into the ring against someone which one do you believe is better than the other? That's the same question I'm asking here about Dawson and Mosley.
Chin? The same Bute who was dropped and out on his feet against a limited plodder in Andrade?:rofl:rofl Child please! Body punching? Dawson is a fantastic body puncher even dropped Adamek with one. He with Bute are two of the best body punchers in the game. Ring General Again I give the slight edge to Dawson who is getting better and better with each fight. The guy fights his fight now. I didn't factor heart in my comparison but I'd say it was even. What has Dawson done in the ring that has showed a lack of heart? He was hurt against Johnson but fought back and didn't go down.
