All fighters seem to have delusional fans that overrate them, haters that sometimes ridiculously underrate them and some people in the middle.

Generally, fighters from past eras get overrated. Sometimes fantasy matchups get mentioned here, like recently Hagler - Hopkins and immediately some people say it's a no brainer that Hagler wins by knockout. Some posters here said that Jerry Quarry would embarass the Klitschkos. The prime versions of Ali and Tyson are often build up as invincible. When someone expressed that opinion in another current thread that mayweather might beat Leonard or Hearns, he was immediately bashed as knowing nothing about boxing. Leonard and Hearns were great but they also had unparalleled media hype for welterweights. It would be interesting to really analyze such a matchup, rather than just declaring it a dogma that cannot ever be questioned that great fighters from the past win against current fighters.

Paul Williams for me. In general he's more underrated than overrated but to the hardcore fans he's kind of overrated in my opinion. He's looked at as the man to bring fear in the hearts of everyone with very little flaws when in reality there are many flaws.

People also tend to disregard the fact that he was seriously rocked and wobbled by a Cintron counter right before Cintron charged into the crowd, so the result of that one is also in question. It almost feels like whoever fights Williams deserves a different kind of credit just for making that fight which, in my opinion, makes him overrated. He's not someone impossible to counter or beat to be rated or looked at that way.

    David Haye, without question.

People are putting him in their current top 20 P4P lists, and ranking him as the third best heavyweight.

Let's summarise why this is idiotic:

    1) Haye has never beaten anyone in the top 50 P4P.
    2) Haye's best win at Heavy was against Valuev
2a) Haye fought Valuev as convincingly as Holyfield and Ruiz did
2b) Haye fought worse than Chagaev did - against an older and more worn Valuev
2c) This puts Haye on the level of an ancient Holyfield and behind Chagaev.
    3) Haye had a total of 2 title fights at cruiser, which was known to be the weakest division in all of boxing at that time.
3a) His fans bleat on about being undisputed. **** off. 2 title fights against nobodies in the arse-end division of boxing means nothing.
    4) Haye's last two fights, the ones which have propelled him to being in people's top 20 P4P list, were against Valuev who wouldn't be in the top 150 P4P and Ruiz who wouldn'e be in the top 200 P4P.
4a) How the **** do you get to be ranked in the top 20 by beating guys struggling to crack the top 150 P4P list?

unified a division and won another belt at a higher weight class in just 24 fights, fair play to him

This thread is bollocks. Haye ain't just a guy who bad mouthed Wlad and beat a couple of average Heavyweights. Some of you have such short and selective memories.

In terms of who's overrated the answer is pretty much everyone. Same with underrated. It merely depends on where you happen to stand.

Do not forget those idiots who think the Kbros who be anything more than contenders in any other era because they have dominated this weak ass era (older bros quite against Byrd and younger bros has a Glass jaw how would they fair against top level competion every night) or how about the idiots who think Joe Calzaghe could beat Ali. I am a fan of PBF, SRL and Hearns I think any matchup between the three would always be close. but for anyone who knows anything about boxing, it is really hard to see pbf winning because the state and level of boxing has slide over time. As for Bhop -MMH, MMH wins clearly but it would not be easy!

They rank him third because hes considered the third best title holder, which makes perfect sense although i do agree hes a little overated.

    1) has anyone below Haye beaten anyone of note recently?

    2) yes a title holder who which ever way you see it has only officially been beaten once

2a) He had a broken hand from the 2nd or 3rd round onwards and still almost stopped Valuev, at least he didnt quit...

2b) Valuev has never been in a big war in which he ships loads of punches, i dont understand how he can be shopworn, i would probably say he had slowed down a little due to age.

    2c) grow up you idiot.

    3) yet far more competitive than the stale heavyweight division

3a) He was undisputed and it does not mean nothing, show some respect, Mormeck and Enzo Macc were decent titleists and far stiffer opposition compared to lets just say Sosnowski and Johnson.

    4) This situation happens with other fighters in the P4P list as well.

He hasn't faced Cunningham, Adamek, Flores, Huck, who would all beat the version of Fragomeni who gave Haye a competitive fight. Unified, what does that mean in Haye's case? Not that he fought all the best fighters in that division.

Valuev lost his belt to Chagaev and only WBA vodoo enabled to him to be a belt holder when he faced Haye. OK; Haye won a belt at HW, but at that time, probably 20 - 30 HW's would have beaten Valuev.
