Based on resume, achievements, dominance and longevity with a bonus for the men who cleaned out and defined their division (8 out of those 10) and a smaller bonus for the guys who weren´t the clear number one or missed out their most important opponents. 1 Joe Louis 1 Muhammad Ali 3 Jack Johnson 4 Rocky Marciano 4 Larry Holmes 4 Lennox Lewis 7 Mike Tyson 8 James J. Jeffries 8 Evander Holyfield 10 Joe Frazier
1 Muhammad Ali 2 Joe Louis 3 Rocky Marciano 4 Joe Frazier 5 George Foreman I'll be back later with the next 5.
Resume also takes into account H2H because you're comparing the H2H ability of the contenders. Unless you just want to look at Ring Rankings, which also are somewhat subjective
Resume solely. there are 2 ways to look at resume: era specific or cross era. but taking a mix of the two and saying only the top guys superced regular resume checks I'd say tried listing some but this is harder than it looks. most people have their criteria stuck and it's hard removing that criteria. i'll get back to this thread.
yeah but for me Frazier was better than Foreman resume wise even though Foreman destroyed Frazier twice.
You can´t compare resume´s cross-era. Because you can´t compare the fighters prperly, just their rankings, which is, like PP already wrote, subjective. Rank a fighter in his era and compare it to how other fighters ranked in their is the way to go I think.
I don't understand your list. Could you explain it to me? Why do you have three #4's, two #8's, and two #1's?
Yes, has to do with the way I compiled it. Had 4 criterias, each worth 5 points max. Every fighter got a certain amount of points. Two criterias are worth more than the other two, those were multiplied by 2 or 3. Additionaly, fighters got a bonus of 10 points (if they defined their era and beat all relevant challengers) or 5 points (if they were either THE man for a short time, a weaker champ or didn´t fight all relevant challengers). Then all those numbers got summed up, they guys with the most points are top. Louis and Ali had the same amount of points, as did the others which ended up at the same position.
Charles????? 1. Louis 2. Ali 3. Marciano 4. Holmes 5. Foreman 6. Frazier 7. Holyfield 8. Tyson 9. Lewis 10. Johnson 11. Liston 12. Dempsey 13. Jeffries 14. Wlad 15. Schmeling 16. Patterson 17. Charles 18. Walcott 19. Wills 20. Bowe 21. Vitali
What I mean is that beating someone like ali or louis means more than beating someone like briggs even if they shared the same ranking at the time.
