As far as faster hands, why not ask someone who's fought both Floyd and Manny. This content is protected This content is protected De La Hoya blog: The best I fought Best fighter: Julio Cesar Chavez -- He had it all. He could box, he could punch, he had an iron chin. And he had guts. He had the whole package. He wasnt 25 when he fought me but he was still an elite fighter. Best boxer: Pernell Whitaker -- He was very elusive, very hard to hit. He was very slippery. Best puncher: Arturo Gatti. -- This kid, may he rest in peace, didnt catch me flush on the chin but his punches were so heavy, heavier than Ike Quarteys. I dont know what he had in his hands. This content is protected -- His punches dont come from your basic boxing style; they come from all sorts of weird angles. Thats what makes him difficult. Quickest feet: Pernell Whitaker -- He was very elusive. He could spin you around and not exert much energy doing it. He did it with ease. It was so natural to him. Footwork starts everything. Best defense: Pernell Whitaker -- Again, he was slippery, elusive. It was hard to crack that defense. Best chin: Julio Cesar Chavez -- I hit him with some shots. In our second fight, I said to myself, My gosh. How can he not go down? Best jab: Ike Quartey -- He had an incredible jab. The special thing about it was that he threw it from his chin or sometimes he would leave it loose in the air. You wouldnt notice him throwing it. His jab was very powerful, one of his best weapons. And when it landed, it really hurt. It didnt sting; it hurt. Like a hammer coming down on you. Strongest: Fernando Vargas -- He just felt strong. It was so hard to handle him. I felt his weight. His punches were heavy and strong. He was solid. We all know what happened there, though: He had a little help. Smartest: Bernard Hopkins -- He is the type of fighter who gets in your head. For our press tour, he was always polite, very nice. No trash talk, no nothing. After the fight, I realized: He did that because he didnt want me to fight angry, to try to take his head off. At the time I fought him, he didnt like pressure from his opponent because he didnt like fighting the whole three minutes. He is one smart cookie.
Like a lot of people have alredy stated. Floyds is faster with foot speed and reflexes i would say his head movement too is timed to prefection , Manny has lightning combos. If Floyd isnt faster he certainly knows how to use his I.Q to utalise what speed he has.
Marquez revealed, Mayweather has a very good defense (motioning a shoulder roll) and is quicker and punches harder than Pacquiao. http://philboxing.com/news/list.articles.php?aid=1405&id=33692
THis, but I think their footspeed is about the same, but technically Floyd utilizes his speed better than Manny does. He can use his footwork to get out of range quickly and his counterpunching speed is so good it usually stops his opponents from throwing many punches, and he does it with so few selective punches too.
I have never been of the impression that Mayweather is particularly lightening quick with his hands, his reflexes are extremely quick though imo. Pacquiao's hand speed might be more overrated than anything, sure he is quick but he appears quicker because he throws clusters of relentless combination's, its his feet that i find remarkably quick. I think Mosley (prime) was quicker with his hand than both.
Manny throws the faster combos but thats only because Floyd doesn't realy throw crazy combos like Pacquiao.Mayweather is also more percise with his punches. He almost always gets them to there mark and rarely misses. Hand speed i go with Floyd. Foot speed it's hard to say because of the total difference in both mens styles. Manny shows his foot speed all the time.Realy Mannys foot speed is his defence.Floyds foot speed on the other hand is there but he rarely shows it because of his style.Mayweather only shows that foot speed that he has when the other fighter is pressuring him and he needs to get out of harms way. Foot speed i say is = Reflex i say theres no comparison.Mayweather takes it hands down.
Pacquiao will be on his back, laughing how easy it was to send Floyd in to Hatton's wonderland. He will be saying... " I TOT DA PAYT WAS GUNA BE HARD BAT.. IT WAS KAYNDA ISI. PLOYD IS PAST BAT HE DID NAT WANT TU PAYT! DER IS NO REMATS BEKOS I AM A KONGRESMAN IN DA PELEPENS! DIS IS MAY LAST PAYT..."
Hands = Floyd Feet = Even Reflexes = Floyd Pac's handspeed might be overrated. To me it looked like even Clottey had faster hands than Pac, punch for punch. But Pac does throw the fastest combos out of anyone at 147. I guess this means the delay between each punch is very small, but each individual punch on its own is not as fast as others at 147 (Floyd, Shane, even Clottey). Using Pac's shadow boxing video to show he has fast hands is misleading, since punching in a fight is obviously not the same thing.
