Anybody who thinks Overeem is the MMA fighter of the year doesn't deserve a vote.

He had 1 fight, Brett Rogers.

If this were "Combined MMA and Kickboxing fighter of the year" then you would be right, but K1 is not MMA.

Ben would definitely be up there if he gets past Pettis, which I think he will. I think he has a good chance of becoming the UFC Lightweight champion in 2011.

I like this list, but I'd add Werdum. He only fought once this year, but it's arguably the best win ever.

I think that is totally fair and reasonable, I was just doing the stats for the fighters listed by name.

GSP would proly win it but if it was me i'll vote for frankie edgar. I have never seen anybody beat baby jay penn like that. GSP had the size advantage and wrestling to beat bj. I never thought edgar could outstrike bj @ 155.

It will be his year when he fights for and wins the title :thumbsup

The man has been on beast mode for the past few years, and will continue to grow as a fighter and into a HW someday.

GSP did what he was supposed to do... I don't think he really overcame any form of significant adversity. The level of competition was good, but it wasn't great. It isn't his fault that he cleaned out his division. I could understand people giving it to GSP, but I personally don't see it.

Edgar, on the other hand, did what no one expected him to do. The first time it was close, the second time he tore BJ apart. I don't think Edgar will be a champ a year from now, but I do think that he was very impressive this year. I think he earned the fighter of the year award.

Edgar should get it for dethroning BJ Penn.

Where in thread title does it say "MMA"? It only says "Fighter", so based on that, Id go with Pacquiao, but UFC or other wise, GSP hadnt lost a single round in 2010.

Well we are in the MMA forum, all the fighters listed are MMA fighters, and all the fights being discussed as criteria are MMA fights.
