Who is greater??: Hiroyuki Ebihara or Betulio Gonzalez

Based solely on fights at Flyweight (including slightly over the weight non title fights), I have Gonzalez #14 and Ebihara #17, all time.

Gonzalez:

• Flyweight record - Around 76-12-4
• Key wins - Miguel Canto SD (lost series 1-2), Shoji Oguma (2-1-1), Guty Espadas, Martin Vargas
• Loses in and around prime years - Masao Oba, Venice Borkhorsor, Shoji Oguma SD avenged (2-1-1), Miguel Canto 2 x SD's (1-2)

Ebihara:

• Record - 50-5-1
• Key wins - Pone Kingpetch (1-1), Efren Torres x 2 inc. 1 x SD, Takeshi Nakamura (3-0-1), Jose Severino, Katsutoshi Aoki
• Flyweight losses in and around prime - Pone Kingpetch SD (1-1), Horacio Accavallo x 2, Bernabe Villacampo

There's not much in it and no wrong answer, Gonzalez's 3 x very tight affairs with Canto speaks very highly for his quality, though.

 

In fairness, at least two of those fights with Canto weren't close at all.

 

Fair enough George, "competitive" rather than "very tight" was probably a better description, in the sense I agree there's no reasonable argument that Gonzalez deserved the decisions in their 2nd and 3rd contests.
