    Yeah, nails it.

Can't believe they didn't fight, it would have been so good.

    Joyce and Wilder?

I doubt Wilder would've gone for it... At least not at any stage where it would've told us anything, by which point both guys auras had gone and the hype died down.

Joyce was probably the better fighter overall, and definitely the more proven against more serious operators...
Stylistically though, Wilder was much quicker and Joyce being so easy to hit would take away the telegraph handicap Wilder would've had against most other serious fighters - it wouldn't have surprised me if Wilder won, it would just have depended whether he was standing long enough to!

There was never a window for them to fight to be honest. Maybe early 2023 but that's it.

They could have fought at almost any point last year, the year before, or this year.

To be fair, yes... And still would.

It would've been more fun a while back, but better late than never.

I don't rate Wilder much at all historically. But, I would likely put him ahead of Joyce. In ten years, Joyce will be completely insignificant in the big picture. Certainly not anywhere close to the top 100 heavyweights. He really never even held a legitimate belt. Even in this watered down era. He achieved less than guys like Tubbs and Bonecrusher Smith.

Both mediocre contenders. Joyce fought a higher quality of opposition and didn't take years to fight live bodies.

Yep. Titles and belts mean absolutely nothing compared to what they used to mean, and Joyce has beaten the better opponents.

It would make for a fun 3rd down under fight for an upcoming card

Despite the usual Wilder hate, he is travelling at 80% in favour in the poll.

I know this isn't really answering the question that was asked (although I voted Joyce), but I'll admit, I'd still have interest in seeing these two fight. Although it would have been so much better years ago before Zhang showed that Joyce wasn't indestructible after all, and before Parker showed that you can outbox Wilder while avoiding his right hand altogether. Although I think that has a lot to do with Wilder's heart not being in it anymore. The old Wilder would've found his moment and KO'd Parker. But yeah, back then, it would've been billed as "the unstoppable force vs the immovable object". Would've been exciting. Wilder probably would've done the same thing to Joyce that Zhang did to be honest.

I like the fact though that it would complete the quartet of Joyce, Parker, Wilder and Zhang. The only ones left to fight each other are Joyce and Wilder. Makes sense really.

Who specifically up to that point, do you feel they would have lost to?

It's interesting how much value a world title holds and keeping an Undefeated record even if not facing the highest level
I think there are many that would view Wilder higher due to where he was fighting out of, world title and long winning streak, but think several around during his time had greater resumes but a loss knocked them back
    Removing Usyk, Joshua and Fury

    Whyte
    Joyce
    Parker
    Povetkin
    Pulev

I think could all have a case for having a greater resume
