dont mention vitali in the same sentence as holmes , holmes is a ATG while the jury is still out on vitali.

Sure guy:patsch But Kevin Johnson goes the distance with Vitali cause hes tougher, better defensively, and has more skills than Larry.

    Close, but Lewis for me.

Overall higher class of opponents, and avenged both losses.

On the other hand Holmes struggled with fighters that Lewis would rip through. Holmes would have been in long battles with Ruddock, Grant, Golota.

Both are great, for somewhat different reasons. Lewis edges it for me, because I feel he would beat Holmes H2H.

Johnsons went the distance with Vitali because he only tried to survive and Vitali doesn't have a good style to chase an extremely defensive fighter. Holmes would go for the win with all he has, would be a great fight.

Well if you wanna look at it that way... An ancient Larry Holmes decisevlbeat Mercer... And Mercer arguably beat a prime Lewis(i scored it even).... Guys that knocked Lewis silly:dead:nut, were routine title defenses for Holmes.

Do you think Rahman or Mccall hit like Shavers,Cooney?

And no Grant would not have given Holmes along battle:nono If Rahman,Mccall knocked Lewis out what would happen if Cooney,Shavers,Witherspoon,Norton,Weaver(prime) or Bonechrusher nailed him?

Holmes had a slick defense... A guy like Arreola (poor defense) went after Vitali and his corner had to stop it .... Arreola would have made it to the end too.

Holmes was very fast in his prime and that would bother Vitali, hed bust him up with his jab and stop him late, especially over 15 rounds.

A 42-year-old Larry Holmes beat an undefeated 30 year old Ray Mercer easily while a 31 year old Lewis won a disputed decision against a bloated 35 year old Mercer. Holmes, at 45, even slower and older loses by 1 point to Oliver McCall, the same McCall who tko'd a 29 year old Lewis in his previous fight.

The only thing Lennox had over Holmes was size and power. Larry excelled in all other departments. The Klits have the same attributes over Larry, but they'd lose to Holmes as well.

I prefer Lennox as a fighter. He also has the better resume, beating the two elite fighters he fought (Holy, Vit Klit). I don't hold the Bowe and Tyson fights not happening against him, both guys blatantly ducked him which shows how formidable he was.

Just because Lewis had these two losses doesn't mean he would have lost to other good punchers. He took bombs from Briggs, Bruno and Vitali, who certainly hit as hard as Cooney...

Lewis had some lesser performances, one was against Mercer. I admire Holmes for his amazing consistency, but he did often struggle with fighters than Lewis would have ripped. Norton wouldn't last 6 against Lewis. I also don't see Holmes completely dominating Holyfield as Lewis did in the first fight.

Holmes struggled badly with a very green Witherspoon, and barely scraped the win, albeit he was a but old. He wasn't perfect all the time either.
