The gameplan thing for Montreal is a myth.

That comment in the article when both fighters were at thier best Duran won is nonsense. That is a good article by the way, but contradicts itself with that last comment. If Dundee came out with the plan to not run, then the strategy worked. For the first fight, Ray was not at his best and still a relatively inexperienced fighter because he did not master the mental and physical game yet. Why do I say this? Because the fact Ray fought Duran's fight proves that he did something he never did in fights after that first Duran fight. Later he would play mental games to get the guy to fight his fight. He learned. Ray won easily the next two times they fought. I think that had Duran and Leonard fought 10 more times after the first fight, Ray wins everytime, except if he gets cut since that seemed to freak out Ray in the 3rd fight. But stylewise Ray wins easily each time he fights Duran. Once he figured him out it was easy for him. I think Duran fans knows this also. Benitez did not beat Duran that much after Ray did in November of 1980. The excuse is Duran did not train for Benitez. Why would Duran not train for his first title fight after Leonard? That makes absolutely no sense at all. He didn't care to win a title? Of course he cares. He loss to Wilfred had everything to do with Wilfred.

Did you read any of the quotes from Dundee or Leonard himself or just the last line?

Cause I've heard them both say as much in TV interviews about the first fight as well...

Thats an all out lie. Its actually the opposite. Its Benitez that doesnt train for fights and hes legendary for it. Its a running joke that Wilfred trained 3 days for this fight.

Well Wilfred was known to not train for any fights, but Duran purposely said that he didn't train for the fights he lost, and this was to the legends. The story on Wilfred was that he never trained and didn't like to, but on Duran it was that when he lost, then he would say he didn't train. Very different. Duran's was an excuse. Wilfred's was that he didn't train ever.

11-4 is 'barely' winning? Cause that's how I had the first.

The rubber match means **** ALL IMO.

Don't say 'Sweet Pea was better lightweight!!!!!' unless you have your reasons. it's unjustifiable, so what reasons do you have?
