I think the Holyfield win is a little better. Nothing against Vitali who was a great fighter, but he out boxed Holyfield more convincingly. I think the win againt Vitali is his second best w.
No , Lewis took the fight on short notice. Vitali had being preparing for Lewis all his life. Thats what challengers do. Tuesday, December 3, 2002 Question: What is your game plan for pulling an upset over Lewis? Vitali: I do not want to reveal my strategies for the fight against Lewis. My preparations right now are top secret. I will present my strategies and my plans in the ring. Thats SIX MONTHS before the fight took place.
It seemed that way to me going into those fights, but Holyfield was flat before and after facing Lewis.
its not been accepted by you that thompson was oldnad not worth a title shot, mav was prime. of course tohmpson would have more wins, he was 9 years older u muppet. 60 year old MUHAMMAD ALI had better wins than mavoric but he sure as hell wasnt going to get a title shot from lewis.
There's much more to the situation, which you have referred to above, than meets the eye. If you know the history then you know it's not a comparable circumstance to Thompson's recall as a Wlad Mandatory and, again, it doesn't reflect the state of the division, in terms of the talent pool, at the time, either. Moreover, it never resulted in Akinwande getting another world title fight, at either Holyfield or Lewis. So it's a moot point, really. No. I'm not - I even showed you the quote from the beginning of our exchange, before the deviation, in which I specifically refer to the re-matching of Thompson, as he approached 41 years old. I continued in the posts that followed to press this as an indicator and my focus. That I subsequently humored your driving this discussion into a Thompson / Jackson / Mavrovic (and now, it seems, Akinwande) comparison, was my mistake and something I have apologized to myself for, profusely. I have also more or less agreed with the Jackson situation; only pointing out the fortuitous circumstances, in which he found himself getting his shot. Why should it and what is it about Wlad fanatics and their penchant for cherry-picked, revisionist criteria selection? Did Lewis rematch Mavrovic, after Mavrovic had reached 40 years old? Did Thompson win anything equivalent to or more than a European Title, before getting his shot at Wlad? Did he beat any Ring-ranked contenders, before getting his shot? Did Thompson have youth on his side? Did Wlad have a defining fight in the offing that he was just killing time for? We could bat this minuscule point back and forth all night and it would never make an impression on the overall topic of the thread. And, given you started out by stating... "McCall, Bruno, Biggs, Akinwande, shot Tucker, shot Tyson, Mavrovic, Tua, Mercer, Phil Jackson, Golota ...... those are the exact same level of opponents as Chagaev, Byrd, Povetkin, Thompson, Ibragimov, Haye, S.Peter." ...you really haven't covered a lot of ground in support of that grandiose statement, have you? Does it really come as a surprise to you that people, who have been watching Boxing for decades and have lived through the era under discussion, might just have spent some time assessing and forming opinions, in situ? People have had over ten years to reflect on the career of Lewis, since he retired. In that time, Wlad hasn't managed to compete in a single career-defining bout. So, why should I change my opinion that Lewis is greater than Wlad? Because of your convincing argument and false accusations of unfairness to your man? When did I claim "Lewis needs to be portrayed as HUGELY superior to Wlad" or even get close to stating anything like that? You Klitschko fanatics make me laugh. Always wrongly accusing those people, who oppose your opinions, of the very things you are abundantly guilty. If you only knew how much that last couple of paragraphs of yours cheered me up; I mean, to the point of me nearly falling off my chair, laughing... Who is it stating an opinion that "Wlad could come back and reign for another 10 years and he'd still be considered nowhere near to Lewis"? Not me. I can't even begin to wonder where that whining rant came from. What cold facts have you relied on? Very few. It's been mostly narrow, nit-picking and subjective opinion, all round. Who used the words "overwhelming degree of supremacy over Wlad"? You just did; I didn't. And - on the basis of all that BS you've just written above - whose insecurities?? Not mine; clearly yours! I think this has all gotten a bit too much for you. You're quite delusional.
Haha I suppose you are suggesting Vitali/Lewis was a top secret plan the whole time. If that was the case they probably should have just promoted it as Vitali vs Lewis instead of Johnson vs Lewis which sold horribly. Vitali vs Lewis with 6 months of marketing might have been a minor PPV hit.
