I phrased this in a way so that we can take defensive technique and style off the table, since it's difficult to compare legs, positioning, upper body movement and other defensive elements between a heavyweight and a welterweight. In terms of straight out difficulty to hit with a flush shot, who has been a more daunting challenge over the past four years, Wlad or Floyd? Keep in mind that you should take into consideration both technique, like the shoulder roll or tying the opponent up, and natural advantages, like speed, height and reach relative to the opponents in their weight class. *by over the past four years, I mean to include only the incarnation of Wlad that has mastered the style he learned under Steward. Obviously not the pre-Steward Wlad who was easy to hit and paid the price.
floyd no argument. Who is wlad fighting that isnt able to hit him?? Wlad doesnt have a notable defense. He's just tall and knows how to use range. But he's also fighting fat guys with no footwork or headmovement.
floyd. and its not even close. wlad has been KO'd three times...and put down on his ass loads more.... floyd barely has a scratch on him. Wlad = height and uses his reach well. floyd - defensive master
Keep in mind that I said over the past four years, which would exclude Wlad's previous style and only consider his current incarnation, where he's rarely (if ever) been hit cleanly. I also mentioned that rather than measuring just defensive technique, like shoulder rolls, to measure pure overall futility that opponents tend to have in hitting each fighter. That would include natural advantages, like height and reach, as well as technical advantages, like use of legs.
how many times had wlad been droped there your answer and then how many has mayweather just to back it up
Wlad actually hasn't hit the canvas in about 6 years now. Which makes it more and more hilarious when people keep on with this "glass jaw" talk.
Right. I know that if you take the entirety of their careers, it's no contest - Wlad has been dropped 11 times in his career. But over the past 5 years he's come to master a style he learned and I've rarely seen him get hit cleanly. Hit so rarely, that the only other fighter I've seen take so few hits is Floyd, and it made me wonder who has been harder to hit over the 4-5 years since Wlad has truly become proficient in his Steward-style.
The quoted pretty much describes my feeling on this subject. Wlad's defense is so goodbecause 9 times of 10, he's the taller guy, and uses his height advantage well, whereas Floyd doesn't always have the benefit of height, yet his is still damn hard to hit flush. The fact that we can remember all the times Floyd was hit with flush, power shots, should remind us, of how hard it truely is for a fighter to hit Floyd with anything noteworthy.
