Very easily Canelo. He's challenged himself a lot more against a greater variety of fighters, including elites. Crawford has not faced opposition whose challenged him to that degree and in todays climate I'm unsure if its possible for him to get there considering his age. That said this isn't a knock against Crawford. Very few guys have the opportunity and ability to become as complete as Canelo.
Crawford has not fought anyone with longer reach than him. We've yet to see how he performs when hugely outsized, like in canelo vs callum Smith
While yes Canelo is more tried and tested against better opposition and right now the greater fighter for me because of that, that isn't the question being asked here. In terms of complete skill sets it's close. Bud has better footwork and movement, Canelo better head movement, both are excellent counter punchers. We've never seen Crawford outboxed like Canelo who's been outboxed for periods by quite a few fighters until he finds his range but of course that maybe down to the level of opposition he's faced being better. Canelo is great at what he does but there's no denying he struggles with movers it's always been a flaw in his game from those earlier fights with Trout and Lara to later fights vs Saunder's and Bivol. I think Bud is more complete overall. The difference in footwork gives him the edge for me. But that still doesn't change the fact that Canelo is the greater fighter. All the skills in the world are meaningless if you don't have the resume to back it up.
Tough 1 but went with Crawford. Don't want to sound harsh on Canelo but he's shown his weaknesses in more than 1 fight over his career.....Crawford to date has not. Canelo struggles with elite boxers, we saw it with GGG, Plant, BJS and Kovalev where he was arguably down or at the best level on many peoples cards before he produced the KO punch.
Canelo's footwork, although inproved, still isn't great. His gas tank has always been questionable. Everything else is elite. Crawford gets caught with punches that probably shouldn't land on a defensively responsible fighter, but he doesn't get hit all that much either. His chin is untested but has held up well. But everything else is elite. Leaning towards Crawford.
Spence, but Crawford probably had the style advantage in that one. Prime Lara would've been an extremely tough fight though.
I don't think so. The most dangerous foe that Crawford has faced - keeping in mind what career stage that opponent was actually at when he faced Bud - was probably Viktor Postol. Viktor could be a dangerous puncher - but he's not on the level of 2014 Lara.
