Lennox Lewis or Evander Holyfield both were big around the same time and both are right behind tyson in terms of popularity in the 90s.
This. Although Holyfield's fame is enhanced by being the guy who pushed Tyson's **** in post-prison and then consequently got a chunk of his ear ripped off. Although his fight with Foreman as far back as 1991 drew considerably well and he took part in arguably the greatest trilogy in HW history and another debacle of a spectacle with the Fan Man. He's also the last relevant American HW Champion.
i don't hate him , i think i always put him in my top 10 hw , pick him over ali if they fought each other and just being realistic about him like i m being about every1 .
World wide i think it's Lennox. Goes without saying in the US Evander is more known. I think Evander is more famous for the ear biting incident then anything else. Sad but true.
It's Evander Holyfield. Easily. Definitely world wide, because he's well known in places like China ! He's relatively well known throughout Africa. Even in England, if someone remembers Lennox Lewis, chances are they recall Holyfield too. I mean, Lewis might be more famous here in the UK, but it's still close.
Nowadays, maybe Evander in a global sense. In Europe though, it's almost certainly Lewis. Neither fighter was particularly popular in their prime though. Don King once said that "Holyfield couldn't draw flies to a dump." Exagerrated obviously, but compared to Tyson it's quite accurate. Lewis was hugely popular in England (once they figured out they had a winner on their hands; before Ruddock he wasn't kindly received) but there seemed to be a reluctance on the part of the US fight crowd to give him due credit. That came much later.
Lewis wasn't "hugely popular" in England until he fought Holyfield. He still didn't exactly draw a huge audience. He was never as popular as Frank Bruno.
