Perhaps you should learn to write grammatical sentences, before telling us fools to go back to school and learn English? Three mistakes in your post. DT, is that short for Delirium Tremens?
Like he did to Bryan Downey, Roland Todd, Willie KO Brennan, Soldier Bartfield, Mike Gibbons, Maxie Rosenbloom, Augie Ratner...
Do you think I'm going to write like an English Professor on a ****ing forum? atsch Anyway, talk about the thread instead of your personal grudges against others.
Greb probably is overrated, yes you couldn't ask a MW to fight more men from his era and yes his resume is stacked to high heaven and yes he proved himself the best MW of his era and probably the second best LHW, while also being 1 of the best HWs and no he shouldn't be penalised for not scoring knock outs. However the depth of the resume likely disguises that in truth he wasn't that massively dominant, both Gibbons brothers level pegged him, the bigger Tunney proved to be better (understandably), but in turn the 20lb smaller Bartfield beat and drew with him in a series Greb would prove the better man, a somewhat green Loughran beat and lost to him, O'Dowd in Greb's first title fight clearly outboxed him. Undoubtably the reply will be 'if you're going to have that many fights you will have off nights and losses', yes true but if you're giving credit for the wins of such a schedule the losses need putting in perspective and its not a coincidence those losses came to the best he fought
The only criticism of Greb ..... He fought a lot of NO DECISION matches, scored few knockouts, therefore a lot of the wins he is credited with are unofficial.
I agree there, guys like klomton really have done the research, and their opinions should count for loads on Greb, really. The fact that no-one who has researched Greb like that, and not found a major fault with him is amazing. Such as? It is nearly impossible to pick holes in Greb's body of work, but it would eb interesting to see someone, making an organised case, rather than throwing claims left, right and centre. It sort of says more for Greb, than detracts from him! And those two points are debatable.
I don't think it's remotely up for debate that Greb was a dirty fighter. Whether you think that affects his legacy or not is a personal thing. He was not a superb hitter. How could he be, moving around that much?
I think it gets overblown though, he wasn't no Fritzie. I would consider him a rough fighter, not necessary overly dirty. I think like Pep he gets slightly underrated as a puncher, still he was no massive puncher just average for his weight class.
Eh, He's at the very least a duran. Thumbs in eyes. Elbows. Headbutts. Slaps and backhands. Biting? If that isn't a ****ing dirty fighter I don't know what is.
Fine fighter that he is, i havent seen 1 thread about Laszlo Papp in my short time here. How is he overated? Have i missed something? As for Greb, i too find it hard to judge a guy that i havent seen fight for myself, but thats just me and is in no way a slight on Greb. It is a negative against Grebs legacy (i think most would agree) but for all we know he could have been better than hes being portrayed already(unlikely but possible). We'll just never know and will have to go on the info we have been given which,in fairness, points to an exceptional fighter
