The worst punch that Floyd was hit with against Maidana was a straight right hand. Nothing awkward about the punch. It wasn't fast. It wasn't special. Floyd just didn't see it coming, and it caused his legs to buckle and him to grab onto the ropes. Which worries me because he shouldn't of been touched by it. I hope no one uses the "it's one punch at of 12 rounds.' This is Floyd. He's practically perfect in the ring. For him to almost be KD or hurt, even once in a fight, is a huge deal. I'm not saying Floyd no longer has fast reflexes. I'm saying they're slower. The way it was described by his #1 fan, Stephen A Smith was, "It used to be someone would throw a punch and Floyd would be already 5 feet away. Now, someone throws a punch and you're like, 'Dang, that was close.'"
What people were saying (if indeed they were saying that at all) and what actually happened are 2 completely different things. Unless you think he was washed up before he fought de la Hoya, hatton etc? :huh Both have declined, Mayweather hasn't looked great his last couple of fights. Pacquiao has probably declined slightly more but the difference is minimal IMO.
They've both slipped, hard to say who has slipped more. The difference here is that Mayweather has adapted better to his age.
I have to agree and disagree here. I believe you're talking about the round 3 punch? Maidana was actually able to bait Mayweather into a pull counter, and I believe Mayweather underestimated Maidana's ability and over committed to the punch, like he was in a rhythm. He had no way of moving out of the way as he was already committed to the counter. It was a combination of both men coming forward, Floyd moved into the punch. So I agree, he shouldn't have been caught with it, he made a mistake. Lucky for him his mistakes are so few and far between. Now here's where I disagree. His legs buckled a bit, yes. But I never saw him grab onto the ropes. He looked to me like he stumbled and had to regain footing, his back pressed against the ropes breifly. He felt that punch and I don't think he recovered fully in the next round. Could Maidana have capitolized and ended the fight? I doubt it, but he would've won the round IMO if there was more time. Smart move by Maidana, hard for Floyd to avoid that punch at the time. Unfortunately for Maidana, Floyd didn't make that mistake twice.
That's what I been saying, people keep talking about the ref. I don't think the ref will have ANY affect on this fight. Pacquiao doesn't fight on the inside OR fight dirty, the whole fight will be on the outside. The ref will only be there to say STOP when the bell rings.
You don't understand it just takes one freak shot any man can go down that's one of the first things they teach you in boxing......... if we take the maidana fights for example in the first fight he never landed flush on the jaw than in the second fight even as thick as maidana is he managed to time mayweather and hit him flush what if he fought Floyd 2 more times?
It's a perfectly valid thread and question. It's clear they're not what they once were, so seeing how much and in what ways they have slipped helps ****yze and predict the fight.
You are acting like Floyd is god in boxing.. He is hittable, he was hit by Mosley with an overhand right.. As Ive said do not use that as gauge because thats just ridiculous.. The way he moves, perform and everything was all the same to me.. Its like people are claiming Floyd are masters of adjustment in fight when basically he hasn't made any.. Floyd does not like pressure and if you pressure him he will dish out more offense, if you have iron chin and will stood up from his punches Or if you can outpunch him Floyd does make the rope as his fall back.. ive seen it and observe it.. Most opponents of Floyd who stood there and trade and pressure him ended Floyd back in the ropes!! Dont make excuses now unless you can scientifically measure them both.. Fact is Pac and Floyd probably have decline but do not make their previous outings as gauge, if theres a scientific approach where in they measure both reflexes etc then find i will agree but other than that, they are the same period no excuses bull**** whatsoever!!
I don't know how to weigh the Maidana fights, maybe he's slipped that much or maybe he just has that style to be a problem. Neither had fought since to tell us that Pac to me looked slow vs Rios and beat an injured Bradley in a fight he fought very flat footed and immobile and beating Algieri tells us little Both have slipped but neither is shot and neither is so clearly more prime than the other
