The "forest" industry is very important in Quebec and and had big problems since the crisis in america. The american people dont build house anymore. Furthermore, when they build them they use their "buy american" act. So we are loosing thousands of jobs. Meanwhile in the same crisis, the governement gave biilions to the Ontario car industry... See what I mean?

Wow...man I knew you were an ignorant ********...but to that extent...

Well TBH I shouldn't surprised...you are from Ontario after all...I mean....you are the ****** that gave Harper majority so...

    Agreed.

Hmm don't bash Ontarians like that mate, there's many of them on ESB and the ones I know are pretty kewl. You should have only said "you must be one of the ****** that gave Harper majority".

Haha you're right, I don't know where the Quebec/RoC discussion started from. But the OP's question have been answered a few times already. Bute is more popular, mostly because of his humble attitude, but Pascal is still very popular.

I was just curious about the separatist movement in Quebec. . . I've been doing some research on the issue, and it seems there are arguments to be made for both sides.

I don't necessarily agree that all because of the vast differences between Quebec, and the rest of Canada, it should be made a separate country. Especially if it's not actually leading to civil unrest, and violent uprisings, attacks, etc. WHen I lived in ****stan, there was an argument between the NW Frontier provinces, and areas in southern ****stan, where they are more "liberal" (for a strict muslim country), and embrace a more "westernized" lifestyle. . . I really do think they should consider separating the two, so the NW frontier territories can embrace the ultra-conservative muslim lifestyle, and make it a 100% "religious" state. . . Then people in Karachi, and Lahore can enjoy a more modern, westernized lifestyle while still placing an important emphasis on religion.

In USA, the differences between California, and the rest of the country is night, and day. . . Same with a lot of southern USA states, and rest of USA. . But I think this is what makes a country unique, is having so many different ideas, cultures, etc. . That's one of the reasons I do like living in USA, is because we are so diverse.

I hope you guys can come to ideal agreement, and if it comes down to becoming separate country, then so be it! The power should be to the people to vote; and if majority in Quebec want it, why not embrace it?

But thank you to everybody who has answered my question about Bute, and Pascal. . . It makes sense!

I also thank all you Quebecers, and Canadians who added to the separate debate of the "separatist" argument! Very interesting stuff!

I plan on coming to Montreal soon. . . A very cool, and interesting city to say the least! AND BOXING MAD!!! LIKE ME!

Wow. Anyone who supports separation supports treason. What happened when America wanted to be an independent country? What about the Baltic States? St. Catharines is VASTLY different from even Toronto, and that's just across the Lake. Ontario is very different from BC, does Ontario hold a referendum to separate? Of course not. Like I said, Ohio is VERY different to Louisiana, isn't it, or did I miss something?

Bottom line, you want to separate from any other country, that is viewed as treason and is met with military force. But Canada seems to like these frogs to be a part of Canada (frogs refering to the separatists that always lose their precious vote anyway), so the Federal Government amuses them.

Now to all you ****ers blasting my comments and how I feel about separation, I guess NOT ONE OF YOU are patriotic? None of you have any love whatsoever for your country? Why don't the 50 States just all separate and become independent countries? Or, to be on par with Canada, only 10 of them will go on their own, 10% of the states, like 10% of our provinces. However, it seems to be the consensus that I am wrong for being against separation. So why even bother calling ourselves Canadian then? I should just refer to myself as an Ontarian then, as patriotism seems to be lost.

However, it seems as though not one of you Americans would be condemning your President if say Florida wanted to separate and he allowed them to hold multiple votes to do so. I also assume none of you would care if your sons or brothers or fathers disowned you, which is what these Separatists are trying to to, in lay speak. Yes, I can speak French, I am a Canadian. I dare any of you Americans to go to Quebec City and not know a word of French. Just watch the treatment you get from the majority. And if you try and speak French (Quebecois mind you, it is a *******ized version of true France French) you had better have your pronunciation and accent down.

You really shouldn't insult or ridicule unless you have lived it.

I didn't vote for Harper. And it is considered to be 'an ignorant fuctard' as you so eloquently put it to be patriotic and be against treason and civil war?

Typical response from a Quebecker. Imagine if these Americans and Brits understood more about what was happening here? English Canada bending over backwards trying to keep Canada together and you traitors trying so hard to leave (what was that about wanting to keep Canadian Health Care and all the benefits afforded to Canadians, yet still you want to be a sovereign nation? Separate and be on your own then, don't expect the rest of Canada to give you all the advantages of being part of a great country but say you're independent when it suits you).

And I think I recognize you from that gif. You look like one of the drunks stumbling outta The Hard Rock and begging for DOLLARS, CANADIAN DOLLARS on St. Catherine St.

That is not patriotism, that is chauvinism, racism and hate. Fortunately, Canadian are not all like you, because everybody would understand easily why Quebec could want to separate from them. :nut

Calm down now. Put your guns, grenades and bazookas back in the closet. Like I said, nobody is talking about that in Quebec at the moment. If you really want this country to work, try to be positive a bit.
