Thats not the question who was better 10 years ago, but who is more shot now. Michalczewski retired a few years back losing close fight to Gonzalez and getting beating from Tiozzo. Jones keep continuing his career without any sense or reason waiting for the next KO. If they fight now who would win ... which obviously is equal to the question who is more shot now?
I think DM was kicking around the idea of returning at cruiser to fight Maske for a while but rejected it deeming himself too past it(??) Something like that. Based on that flimsy memory and a vague recolection that DM was considerably overweight, I'll go with him as more shot. Jones, presumably, makes weight. In this sorry contest, that puts him in front.
DM wanted a fight with Ottke/Maske - Maske declined, Ottke accepted (Ottke has financial problems). There was already some build-up to the Ottke DM fight, however it never took place, I guess it was because of weight issues. (DM being pretty fat now - while Ottke has stayed in reasonable shape). Anyhow - While Roy obviously is way over the hill, he still is a pretty good boxer probably still in the top 5 or so in the LH devision. DM is way out of it. He is partying a lot and the last time I saw him on TV he had to be well of 220 pounds. So right now: Roy >> DM. It would still have been an interesting fight 10-6 years ago.
I think DM is more shot. At least RJJ is active, he makes 175 eaisly, and he went 12 rounds without problems against a couple of opponents. Judging by somewhat recent photos of DM he could have some trouble to make CW limit. And, according to tabloids, his lifestyle is less than healthy.
I think it is a different question. I think Roy wins now as he would have at anytime during their careers. However on the flip side Roy is "more shot" b/c at his peak he was ALOT better than DM, therefor IMO that means ROy has lostmore.
