I find it too hard to call personally, Ive chickened out by creating my own personal poll (that no doubt will get used by others) but the main reason I did the poll was to see the views of ESB, I expect a close one here but you can never tell on ESB.
    Explanations welcome as always.....

    Toney or Hopkins ? :think

  2. Hopkins by far, he beat better opposition, de la hoya, trinidad, tarver, winky wright, and always kept in shape and never got fat in between fights:deal..
Toney could have been better but was lazy, and couldn't keep himself in shape..

That's a fight we should have been given as a treat in the past !
If only Toney could stay off the Arreola diet, a fight at the cruiserweight limit would still be awesome today !

Hopkins, Hopkins was a much superior mover and that would always be the difference between the two.

Its not even close. Hopkins by a country mile.

While Toney was phenominal in the pocket, he was average outside of it. His limited footwork always limited how effective he was from distance.

Hopkins on the other hand is one of the most complete fighters Ive ever seen.

    stop it!

JT farted more "boxing" then Bernard, for me he had the ability to be the GOAT if dedicated and not addicted to BK (hopkins is great btw and i'm a big fan, but pure boxing its no doubt toney was more skillful)

if toney could have just stayed in shape... that boy could box with the best of them... but i picked hopkins because he beat better opposition and was able to maintain his skill level even at the later stage in his career... it also helped that he was disicplined enough to be able to maintain his weight as well... if only toney was able to do that... who knows how good he could have been towards the end of his career as well...

My pick is Hopkins. That said, the difference isn't that big, Toney was a very skilled fighter.

Don't you count footwork? That is a major skill and Toney's is very mediocre compared to his other abilities. Hence he's very rarely effective as an aggressor because he doesn't move his feet very well. He's at his best against a come forward fighter, as an outboxer he's not up there. Hopkins could do more.

That was the first thing that came to my mind when I read the thread's title. Toney could perform the "slip and counter" perfectly, but I give this to Hopkins because of the great footwork and movement. If you compare these two, Toney seemed like he was stuck to the ground at times.
