This is not a question of who u want him to fight or should fight but who will he fight next. Dziniruk was the only fighter HBO would approve of for Martinez and not even against his mandatory zbik. So who else is there that the fight is likely to happen and hbo would approve?
Not sure. I initially thought he might just wait to fight the winner of Zbik-Chavez (even if Zbik wins, the fact that HBO is airing it means they might approve a fight with Martinez this time around). Lewkowicz however said his next fight is going to be in July, which is too early to take on the winner of that match. Maybe DiBella will get HBO to swallow a fight with Lee this time around.
Since he won't fight Pirog, and Sturm likely won't fight him, I can see a Cintron rematch or if he waits till later in the year to fight, Chavez Jr.
Absolutely, but I have no idea who else around middleweight has sufficient exposure and actually would want to fight Martinez. I guess Pirog is the most logical option, but it will have been over a year since he appeared on HBO and he has no drawing power compared to Lee. Plus Martinez and DiBella are mad at the WBO for giving his belt to the winner of Pirog-Jacobs.
He deserves the biggest fight he can get. Being that Mayweather and Pacquiao have never fought at a weight bigger than 150. I don't see those fights being made. Cotto is as big a name as any one else, but can he make 160? I'd like to see him try to unify the championships at 160. He can face Felix Sturm the WBA Super World middleweight champion, WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog, interim WBA World middleweight champion Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam, IBF middleweight champion Sebastian Sylvester or WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. I think if he wants a big name he needs to go up to 168 or get a catchweight fight with Lucian Bute or Andre Ward.
Martinez should unify all world championship belts at 160 pounds and rule this Division completely to become the Undisputed World Middleweight Champion like Hagler, Monzon, and Ray Robinson. That's exactly what he should do next. You see what I mean?
When Monzon showed up he won both titles at once and they were the only two titles. When Hagler became champion, same thing and then IBF came along and he was the inaugural champion. Ray Robinson? Ray won "the" title. This is such a different day. Getting them all together and actually keeping them all at the same time his nearly impossible. At 36 when you're back to zero titles? ****!
heh, not to mention the ABCs will strip you of them faster than they hand them out, just so they can give it to someone else for more $ the next day
