Any idea who Ortiz has been sparring with leading up to his fight with Wilder? Or who Wilder is sparring with for that matter?
I know Wilder posted a pic from his camp with some sparr partners and no one was a southpaw there...so maybe a tactical aspect or he simply has no clue what he is doing there. I think a WC has some people around who giving some advices but still....wondering
Ortiz is out here in Palm Springs going at it with the countless windmills we have in the California desert. SIKE!! I like Ortiz and in another life he could have been the man but he loses this fight with Wilder so it does not matter who he spars. All he has to do to look good is stay standing for all 12 rounds.
Ivan Dychko. 6'9 2012/2016 Olympic bronze medalist, very good amateur background, 4-0 as a pro. Also based out of Florida.
Wilder does not need to spar, all he has to do is run for 12 rounds, Haymon owns the judges, boxing commission, referee, Wilder has been guaranteed a win. Wilder has HAYMON BOXING INSURANCE! Didn't Ortiz sign options with Haymon to get this fight?
Amateur record of 181-18, 2 Olympic bronze medals, 2 silver and one bronze at world amateurs, 2 gold at Asian championships, 6'9 with a long reach. Excellent sparring partner for Ortiz against Wilder. Dychko was always in the same league as Yoka, Joyce and Hrgovic at amateur level, looks a bit like Price in the ring with a much better jab and movement similar to Fury. Will be a contender in 2-3 years as he continues to improve.
He's like Tyson Fury but sucks at controlling distance. (I think that was my conclusion after 5 minutes on youtube a couple months ago...) So, No.
Not a great punch. Reminds me alot of Fury in his huge size and amazing speed for his size, and his reflexes and volume punching. Never had quite the success as an amateur his physical gifts should have brought him. Not sure what is missing, although he doesn't have the best chin or punch. But a much better sparring opponent to prepare Ortiz for Wilder than Wilder seems to be using to prepare for Ortiz. Just maybe an upset brewing?
Yeah, spot on. Now that you say it, I think that was my major problem with him when I looked at his fights
I don't understand why so many people think Wilder is going to win this fight. Ortiz is underrated and is better than anyone Wilder has ever faced. Ortiz has body attack not seen since Tyson. As bad as Wilders chin is Ortiz could KO the bum.
