Jones has skill. Had it in spades. He used his natural athletic ability to augment those skills. When it went away, he didn't adapt.

Jones had great ring generalship, great accuracy, good timing, great technique when throwing his punches (when he used the jab, it was very good). He knew how to circles his opponents, break down their styles and exploit their weaknesses. He could roll with punches almost as good as Toney. All of this is skill.....he relied on his speed and athleticism to augment them and do unorthodox things. When his speed and athleticism starrted to deteriorate, he didn't adapt his style and is still trying to do unorthodox things.

That's his problem, not lack of fundementals, but the reluctance to let go of who he was. Anyone who listens to Jones commentate, has seen him fight in amateurs, etc knows Jones has skill, fundementals, the whole nine yards.

Roy hands down. Bernard and Montiel Griffin (before he was KDed first fight and jones hit him while he was down to get DQed) gave Jones a Slight bit of problems but nothing in the least to worry about. He did have a Flash KD on him, forget the kids name. Roy totally should have left the game after Ruiz.

Floyd had a bad fight with Chavez, Castillo (both fights), Zab did pretty good for a while (IT WAS a KD that first round I dont care who you are)
Oscar wasn't pretty, Baldo he Ran, the fight was horrid. Dont get me wrong, Floyd is one Bad MoFo, but he's not Feared because of his skill like Roy. Dudes KNEW they were gonna loose against Roy.

Folks RAN from Roy, Floyd Runs from just about any body else that's a bit of a threat or Pop shot them to death(Ghey was of fighting!)

Excellent post mate. Totally agree with everything said. Roy adapted his fundamentals to make his unorthadox technique successful. If it were merely being athletic then every good sprinter, or basketball player would be a boxing star. Its all about the technical ability with roy, which allowed him to utilise his great athleticism.
