The fact is that GSP did lose, by ko (If you wanted to be uncharitable you may even claim that GSP tapped to strikes!!) to a fighter who campaigned for most of his career at 155 (Serra)!!

What exactly has Jen Pulver got to do with the fact that Matt Serra ko'd GSP? It would take a guy from the 145 division to defeat BJ Penn for there to be a parallel with the GSP-Serra scenario!!! And no 145 fighter is beating BJ.

The fact that Georges has never faced any 185 fighter, not even a contender, does allow me to consider his defeat (Which he avenged) to a "Smaller" guy when considering his p4p status.

If you read my posts you would read that imo GSP has the potential to climb above Silva and BJ, all he has to do is fight (And beat) champions (Current and former) at the above weight, as the other two guys have done.

When you consider just how dominant all three UFC champions are, such factors must be taken into consideration when assessing their p4p ranking.

As for BJ's fight with Matt Serra. I scored it differently to you (Though it was very competitive). I can appreciate that you had it a close fight ( I had BJ winning 29-28 ) yet the UFC (As you know) operate a "10 point must system", so the fight could have never been a draw (As no fighter had suffered a point deduction) so your scoring of the fight is somewhat flawed.

At no point have I ever underestimated the ability of Matt Serra, after all he was able to ko GSP! But my point regarding Matt Serra is that he would never beat BJ Penn and I do not believe that he would.

I have been a fan of GSP since before it was fashionable to be so. He is a wonderful fighter and a class act who has brought nothing but good to the sport of MMA, but in my opinion he is currently ranked #4 in the MMA p4p list, behind Fedor, BJ and Anderson. But I have no problem with anyone else putting any of these guys in any order (Apart from Fedor, who is undoubtedly #1).

If you want to rate BJ over GSP because of his performances outside his natural weight class then thats fine by me. However, please don't enter Matt Serra into the situation. "Woulds" and "Shoulds" have no place when it comes to rankings.

Do you seriously think a draw in the UFC is impossible without point reductions? Do you even know what the "10 point must" system is? Let me share with you some language from the unified rules:


"The ten-point must system is in effect for all fights. Three judges score each round and the winner of each receives ten points, the loser nine points or less. If the round is even, both fighters receive ten points."


Next time keepyour assumptions to yourself.

As for "Assumptions" when considering any p4p list an assumption is often all any of us have, so are you advising every member of ESB to stop having such debates? Simply because they are merely assumptions?

As for "Would(s) and should(s) regarding Matt Serra, Matt Serra ko'd Georges!! There is no would/should about that fact. Matt Serra got beat by BJ Penn that is also fact!! But your point regarding Jens Pulver is a valid one and I am happy to acknowledge it as so.

P.S You are absolutely right, there can be 10-10 rounds in mma. I am happy to acknowledge that I was wrong and had we not had this debate I would not be aware of that fact, so thank you .

That isn't bad at first glance. Of course, this is coming from the most WEC-biased fan on the board, so take my vote of confidence with a grain of salt...

 

I hear you on that WEC is the ****. Ive probablly said this 8 millions times but **** this Direct TV-Comcast dispute. Of course I love my once a month or every other month live WEC event but what I really love was the the replays of past events basically every night on Versus. I cant tell you how many times I would watch fights like Faber-Pulver I, Torres-Maeda from that same card I could never EVER get bored of it. If I ever get Versus back I probablly wont leave my room for months. WEC is by far the most exicting MMA company out there 99.9 percent of their main events are FOTY caliber.

 

Rampage Jackson could be there in the top 10, I know he didnt fight since a while, but since being in the UFC, he only lost a razor close decision.. And that would have been a lot less than a robbery if he won vs Forrest if we compare to the Machida situation..

 

No way did Rampage win the fight besides 1 uppercut KD in the 1st round he did very little.
