I look at it like this; Joe seemed to train very hard and worked hard in the ring. He was shorter and had to use his movement to get into position to get inside or just get into range where he could connect. Joe would never quit and gave 100% in every match, indicating a more blue collar mentality in the ring (put in the work and it will pay off). George Foreman seemed to be just an overwhelming puncher who did not even need to have a defensive strategy or head movement. Obviously, he did have some skill and strategy going into fights but he just had so much raw power that no opponent had the chance to test his skill. He had more of a God given talent that he did not really have to develop. So, Foreman was talented but also limited in his skill set. Ali was the one that exposed this and exploited it, basically leading to Foreman's early retirement 3 years later. When Foreman decided to come back in '87, he developed a strong work ethic and a more intelligent, patient approach in the ring. He had to, he was almost 40 years old at that point! When he reinvented himself as an approachable, funny, hardworking middle aged fighter, he became the blue collar every man. The work he put in from '87 to '97 that led to him winning the heavyweight title at 46 puts him above Frazier in my book!
