Has anyone on this forum seen him fight at all, he was rated 3rd in the middleweight division during March 1996 by the ring magazine, he was 24-0 at the time and also held the WBA title, if he had moved up at this time could have threatened the top three rated super middles Jones, Collins or Benn?
Difficult to say but probably not. Decisioned Jorge Castro to win the title but likely suffered a detached retina in that bout which went undetected until his first defense, when Joppy stopped him — couldn’t see the punches coming, apparently, and took a beating. Pre-Castro, he didn’t really fight anyone of note to judge him on.
He'd have had no success against the names you mentioned, but still, a very (VERY) interesting guy. A wild guy, but a fun guy. Holds wins over 4 notable names. Castro, obvious, Nishizawa (who DID fight for world titles a couple of times - Vs Beyer and Mundine), Hisashi Teraji (the father of Kenshiro) and Biney Martin (who is now one of the most famous referees in Jaoan). The bout before his world title fight is...interesting, round 8 features a real rarity
