Holyfield is the clear, consensus #1 but who is the 2nd best cruiser & why? (Post 1980 fighters only please)

Is it DeLeon, Nelson, Qawi, Haye, JC Gomez, Adamek, Jirov, Mormeck, Bell, Wamba etc...

    Holyfield behind Haye. :D

    Maybe Qawi?
He certainly was the best with the tools he had.

it's certainly a very shallow division. I think Haye, Bell, Mormeck have to be in the mention for unifying all the belts.

I reckon Sugar has to be there for his long run at the top.

I reckon Cunningham has to be there because at one point he'd owned victories over the top 5 ranked guys and every belt holder or something daft.

But after that anyone can be argued really.

No love for Gomez or Nelson?

How do you rate them Luf; is it H2H, resume or a composite of both?

Gomez was around a while but I don't think he was ever number 1. Nelson might have an argument if I bothered to watch his bigger fights but his style is too displeasing.

I rank on a system where I tier them on an achievement/resume composite then rank in that tier on h2h.

So I've split them like this in tiers:

    Evander Holyfield

    David Haye
    Carlos De Leon
    Steve Cunningham
    O'Neil Bell
    Jean Marc Mormeck

    Tomasz Adamek

    Marco Huck
    Orlin Norris

    Dwight Qawi

and each tier is ranked in h2h order.

    Cool:good

I think Gomez is one of the better cruisers but his competition was fairly poor. Nelson deserves credit for defending his title in so many countries but I can understand why some (most) dont like his style.

Toney & Jirov are good H2H but didnt achieve as much as others did.

Funny enough, I just rewatched Holfield-Qawi I earlier tonight. I think a fair case could be made for Qawi as the #2 cruiser champ all-time.

    Some u missed:

    Ralf Rocchigiani
    Orlin Norris
    Vassiliy Jirov
    Krzysztof Wlodarcyzyk
    James Toney
    Guillermo Jones
    Carl Thompson

Gomez was an exceptional CW, Toney ducked him.
