Marciano is 10-0 against Ring top 5 fighters. Only Ali and Louis have won more against the very best of their respected eras. In contrast, Holmes managed roughly half this number in a diminished post-Ali era and much longer career. Against Hall of Famers Maricano is also an impressive 6-0 5 KOs.

Walcott was the reiging Champion fresh off the biggest wins of his career, Ezzard Charles was the number one heavyweight contender in the world, Archie Moore was the number one heavyweight contender in the world, and the declined Joe Louis was still a top 5 fighter coming off a demoltion of the durable number #2 Lee Savold.

Rex Layne was an avoided top 3 contender. LaStarza was a top 5 contender and regarded as one of the best defensive fighters in the division. Before the term P4P was coined, Mathews was regarded as one of the best fighters in the World and a leading contender for the Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight crown. Cockell was the number #2 heavyweight in the World and Maricano chose him as a tune up after an injury.

 

You got that right. The mid 50s was a very loaded era. Promising young contenders like Harold Johnson, Clarence Henry, Bob Baker, and Nino Valdez couldn't even secure title shots. In large part because Moore cleaned them all out before they could challenge Marciano.

Something interesting to note is that many of the 50s near men still had success against against leading 60s contenders in the twilight of their careers. Harold Johnson beat Machen and Doug Jones. Bob Baker upset George Chuvalo, and Satterfield collected a one round KO over the rising Cleveland Williams.

Personally i can't see how some ppl. rate Louis so high but i guess that those many title defenses against sub par comp. count for something after all; and Jack Johnson in top 10 is ludicrous, there's absolutely nothing about him that recommends him in the top 10

 

Marciano. Don't care that he was a slugger, greatness isn't just about skill and he proved he had what it took and more to overcome any disparities in that. I'd never bet against him

If Ali and Louis are 1 and 2, then Foreman has to be no. 3. Not the most technically brilliant heavyweight, ahem, but in terms of size and strength he can't be denied. I might put Foreman at 2, but since I never saw Louis fight, I just can't say. I like Lennox Lewis for 4, but I'm willing to listen to arguments about that. For 5 I don't know. Who here thinks Frazier would have beat Liston?

Here's another question. Does anyone know how a top legendary trainer would answer this question? I am thinking of Cus D'Amato in particular, but any legend's opinion would be interesting to know.

 

Bull ****, Lewis barely beat an old Holyfield and than he beat a shot to **** Tyson, he doesn't have a great win on his resume. Foreman Knocked out Frazier, Norton & Moorer, he is easily above Lewis.

I'm not disagreeing, but I just want to know. Why Johnson at 3 over Foreman, Liston, Frazier, and everyone else.? What is the basis for saying that?
