I don't have a huge opinion on number three, of course, as has been said, the first two are pretty obvious... as far as no 3 goes... ermm... I'll say Scott Harrison just to keep Dunky happy.
Scotty is hanging in there at no3, but his coats on a shoogly nail ATM. If Burns beats Martinez, I would have to say that the Rickster would automatically move into the no3 spot, cos quite simply Harrison, potential scottish ATG that he was, never fufilled that potential. Why? Cos he went stark raving bonkers, as we all know. & even the out of shape crazy version of Harrison still managed to beat the likes of Brodie, Hussein etc... but enough about Scotty. Martinez is a big scalp, on a scale that Harrison never managed to take in his short career. So if Burns can somehow pull of the unexpected & win? IMO he outdoes Harrison & takes his place in the scottisah ATG rankings. Its a big ask though, for Burns to beat Martinez. I got my ticket & will be there to cheer him on:good Its a delicate subject though this scottish ATG rankings thingy, cos in my big scottish head, prime Scott Harrison would beat Ricky Burns, & prime Scotty would have hammered Martinez. Scotty was a guy you could never beat in the trenches, & Martinez would have been disposed of inside 3 rounds by Scotty. But hey, Im talking about Scotty again Thats neither here nor there though... Its about the here & now, & Ricky Burns is on the cusp of greatness. However, I expect Ricky even if he beats Martinez to still only be classed as the 4th best scottish fighter of all time, cos I fully expect a certain Craig McEwan to be vying for the tag of the no1 ATG scottish fighter before his career is over... & THATS THE TRIPLE TRUTH.
Dunky, your speaking alot of **** there. You seem to have forgotten a whole host of scottish fighters. If Burns beats Martinez that by no means makes him the third greatest Scottish boxer ever. Thats a heap of bollocks.
in my scotty madness I forgot about Benny Lynch, your right. I hold my hands up! I just got caught in the moment, & it felt good! I dont get caught in the moment much here nowadays sadly enough. You do realize that I 'owe you one' now though, dont you? I dont mind a poster 'putting me right' but you were a bit too cheeky for my liking. Until the next time we cross swords...
When did Roman Martinez become this huge scalp? He has a win over Nicky cook and.............um............yeah, kinda just Nicky Cook really. I wouldn't place him above quite a few of the guys that Harrison fought.
we cant compare ricky with scott just yet, wait till ricky wins the world title and defends it before comparisons can be made.although ricky's easily got the talent
Sorry about that it was late. But you were a bit over the top come on lets just for a second compare Ismael Laguna (who Buchanan beat) to Roman Martinez. Who do you think is better and a better win? Lets compare Tracey Harris Patterson to say Ruben Navvarro. Who do you think is better there? I just think it is very ignorant completly dismissing and ignoring fighters of the past. I can respect people's opinions. But when someone completly ignores basically the whole history of Scottish boxing, it annoys me. Just because people might not know about these guys does not mean they should be completly disregarded. If Ricky Burns beats Martinez he wouldnt even get into my top 10 scottish fighters.
