I was looking through all of the best british fighters, and i realized that most of the recent ones were not fully 100 percent english.....

Is ricky hatton the best english fighter of recent times????
I mean their is also minter but who else???

This is not to take away from british fighters or part british fighters I would just like to know the best english fighters of recent times....

    Froch is only half english
    Haye is also only half
    Lennox is jamaican

I guess Bruno is british, but he is of african descent...

Oh yea, their is clinton woods, he kicks ass... Is their anymore??/

I'm sure if you go back through ayones family tree you will find foreign ancestors. I don't think ayone one our little islands is pure british. In fact the whole thread has the horrible feel to it. Bruno is as British as anyone I've ever seen.

I kinda understand the question but getting into defining people as 100% English or anything else is dangerous territory fella.

Hard to know exactly who or what is 100% indigenous English any more than 100% Scots, Irish or Welsh.

Do we need to check if someone is Anglo-Saxon, Celtic, Norse, Norman, Roman, Hugenot or Jewish as well if the colour isn't a give away? (that was rhetorical by the way)

Yeah, I don't think there is any such thing as 100% Welsh, English or Scottish genetically. I know that might **** people off but its the way it is ;)

If you're raised in England and England's culture, you're English. The best English fighter of recent times would be Sheffield's Naz, in my opinion. I'm not sure Lewis was ever totally ingrained in England's culture, even though he lived here till he was nine.

    Dangerous ground this

    Naz was English

Lewis wasn't - not because of his skin colour or anything like that just because he talked like a yank lol

Channel 4 did a program a few years ago called "100% English" (I think)...genetic tests where carried out on a group of people who all claimed to be 100% english, the group ranged from fairly harmless Norman Tebbit to some stupid ***** solicitor who was the head of a border line racist group who basically said england for the english. Only Tebbit showed any signs of being 100% northern european, never mind english. The woman solicitor tried to stick an injunction on the showing of the film when it emerged that her genetic makeup was 60% Eastern European Romany....I laughed my **** off.

You are where you are born regardless of your colour or background

I'll have to check that program out. Perhaps they should stick a few needles in Nick Griffin and do some tests on him. I have a funny feeling his genes will be 82.5% ****.

Incidentally, icemax, Indian Red died a week or so ago from dementia. He was 64. Lopez never got over his boxing career ending and roamed the streets for many years.
He was reunited with his family about four years ago.

There's an interesting documentary on 4oD (I think it's called "The Difference") where genetic scientists basically prove the concept of racial purity is nonsense. They do a test where they take a group of people from different ethnic backgrounds and can trace their genetic lineage back to a common ancestor - they shared this common ancestor much, much more recently than you'd think.

So yeah, the idea of a 100% English fighter is nonsense, given the UK's history the indigenous population is bound to be largely genetic mongrels anyway (not a term of offense, I'm white British).

As someone said, Frank Bruno is about the most English boxer I can think of.
