Justify your answer Freddy Roach Nancho Beristain Emmanuel Steward Roger Mayweather Roberto Garcia Anyone else deserve a mention?
I believe Pedro Diaz is one that should get a mention, idk about being the best yet but he is definitely looking good with what he has done with cotto, can't wait to see how he does with other boxers in their primes
"Iceman" John Scully: extensive boxing experience, unique ability to relate to fighters, vast knowledge of ring tactics, and powerful motivator. He's got youth, energy, and knowledge.
All depends on the qualities that each trainer has. I don't believe there is one right answer I like roger for two reasons 1. He is always with his fighter- no other trainers and scheduling conflicts or is there for last month instruction - he knows Floyd is the priority 2. His style of training with Floyd has paid off and they have been reaping the benefits of their match for the past 10 fights. Always calm in the corner and his fighter rarely ever gets in trouble.
IMO Freddie the Joke Coach Roach has been the most consistent these past few years. Other trainers are quick to be heralded as the next big thing but usually come and go out of the limelight quick. Take the hype all around Nazim Richardson for a bit soon as he had success with Mosley and BHop, now he hasn't really done much recently. Same with Buddy Mcgirt when he apparently reformed Gatti. Robert Garcia was on the rise with Margarito and Rios and was quick to be called a great trainer, now again I dont think he has really done much since. Floyd Snr doesn't have anyone, Roger Mayweather has Floyd...thats it, and most of what Floyd knows he learned from his dad. Nacho is very good but IMO he's a different type of coach, he has to teach one style and he needs to ingrain it early into a kid. No doubt he's very good at what he does but IMO I dont think he's as good at taking a top boxer and just refining him to improve on what he does rather than completely trying to change him. Manny Steward is not bad either, another hired gun sort of trainer. Pedro Diaz is very good but we've seen him in 2 pro fight so cant really say. Roach hasn't really trained anyone from a kid but thats not his game, he dont need to, he doesn't have long anyways and a lot of it is down to whether the right kid walks through the doors. Whats important IMO is that the boxer is better after they came to him than before. I can say that is the case for Chavez, Khan, Pac, Vasquez.
Thats cause floyd forbade him to train anyone else. Whatever floyd says roger does. As it stands right now Roger's credentials as a prized trainer is in doubt because his only success is floyd and we are uncertain if he is a product of floyd or vice versa.
