The top guy around his era would have been Louis who he beat, but not in his prime..I think Marciano defeats Louis any year, due to durability and Louis's chin and lack of movement in footwork..Louis also believed he would have had trouble with him regardless.

Possibly Patterson, who was skilled, but I think Rocky wears him down.

Louis for all the reasons the newbie mentioned, + he hated swarmers.
Louis being at least near the best ever seals it.

Yep, Joe Louis would be his big mark.

Maybe Louis, for the reasons raised by uncletermite. As for heavyweight greats after Louis....drawing a blank.

Muhammad Ali. Oh, wait, that can't be right because Ali was great but had problems with swarmers as much as Louis did. Still, it's Ali so we'll ignore that and pick Louis to lose, instead. ****ing priceless!

I think that Marciano could beat any heavyweight in history.

Whether he would be favoured to beat a given heavyweight, is another matter.

There are champions who beat Marciano. Absolutely. But there are also champions Marciano beats and has a outside chance against too. He was a great fighter wasn't he, what's wrong with that?

There's no sence in saying Rocky beats every single fighter taller and heavier than Rocky anymore than there is in saying Rocky loses to every single guy (contender or journeyman) with a size advantage.

Ali is the greater fighter, but based on styles it makes sense to pick Rocky to beat him. I still lean towards Ali, but it would be a great fight. I see Ali sweeping the early rounds but with Rocky constantly pressuring him, then somewhere around the 4th or 5th round Ali will slow down and Rocky will gain momentum and start dishing out hell. Ali proved time and again what metal he was made of, and I think he could pull it together the last rounds and gain a close decision, but if you look at the styles Rocky is a nightmare for him and I would not be surprised if he wins.

I know Joe Louis didn't like swarmers either, but I don't see Rocky beating him. The Rock would have to take to much leather coming in, and against a prime Louis that's just not something you want to do.

the other top five atgs holmes ali Louis and lewis would hug the odds against him, and possibly Johnson and foreman too.
