2/3 of his total resume is made up of ham and eggers from the Northeast club circuit. The best on his resume were former lightheavies and guys on their very last legs. This is not exactly a great spectrum of talents upon which to base an argument of heavyweight power. He's not facing 6-3, 230 pounders night in and night out. In fact, he never faced such a fighter of any quality. Due to the sample size of his opposition, we are left to assume that his power, like every other 185 pounder in the history of the sport, does not translate to elite, larger size heavies.

Call me silly that I do not make drastic exceptions for the wee fellow.

How many elite fighters did Joe Louis beat at his peak, or Jack Dempsey, or Wlad for that matter? I guess Jersey Joe Walcott was lying when he said ' Marciano's single shots were harder than Louis he had no finesse but it was like being hit with a baseball bat'

I never said Rocky would beat modern heavies I said he had a good chance against the two greatest heavyweights of all time Louis and Ali.

Marciano had 7 world title fights and that includes his challenge of Walcott it was a hardly a lengthy reign.

    It encompassed just 3 years!!!

Marciano did not look invincible against Walcott in their first fight, he was behind on points.

"Going into the 13th round, Walcott was ahead on all three official scorecards"

He was in danger of being stopped against Charles in their second fight and their first was competitive .

"Despite the fact that his victory was a decisive one and virtually foreordained, Marciano lost the sympathy of a good many in the crowd by his inclination to skirt the rules. Twice he was guilty of hitting after the bell, and once he was warned for heeling Ezzard in a close-quarters exchange. "[

He was floored by old Archie so not invincible there either.

Against Lastarza, second time round Rocky didn't look invincible either.

Life magazine reported: "Trying to knock the challenger out with one punch, the 29-year-old Marciano was over-eager and awkward. He lunged, butted, hit below the belt, on the break and after the bell. Once, he swung so wildly that he missed and slipped clumsily to the canvas. Outboxing the champion and avoiding his blows, LaStarza managed to win four of the first six rounds. In the seventh, Marciano changed his tactics, started aiming at LaStarza's body as well as his head in an attempt to wear the challenger down. He succeeded."

"I changed my style of fighting in the seventh round," Marciano said after the fight. "I was behind ... So instead of throwing my right so much I concentrated on hooks and combination punches."

More myths from the Marciano myth makers. Hence forth to be called The Triple M's!

I never said Marciano looked invincible in every fight! Why do my posts keep getting mis-interpreted by people that clearly have a chip on their shoulder because Marciano is the only unbeaten heavyweight champion of all time.

What I said was no champion is invincible - including Rocky! Mike Tyson was not invincible! Rocky made the most of his physical deficits -give the guy some credit - the only unbeaten heavyweight champion of all time - even tough according to you he could barely fight, was a dirty fighter, and looked unconvincing most of the time and had a 3 year reign - which is more than a lot of heavyweight champions ( tell me how long Mike Tyson reigned for 86-89 thats 3 years)

Marvis Frazier was not good. Holmes put him out in the 1st round too.
Bonecrusher Smith had a habit of doing far too little in many of his fights. He should have knocked Marvis out. He probably deserved the decision.
Hell, he should have done a lot more against Tyson too.

    Your words:
"Name me another heavyweight that won every world title fight? Name me a heavyweight that looked invincible in every world title fight?"

Oh by the way Marciano was a dirty fighter, do you want to look at the reports of his fights?

yes I meant Rocky as well in that question ( because posters keep mentioning fights were he didnt steamroll the opponent in 1 round - and im asking if anyone can name a fighter who looked invincible because they dont exist), I never said Rocky looked invincible im not that blinkered:patsch

The first question I did mean that no other heavyweight can compare to Rocky in winning 100% of his world title fights

Rocky isnt the only other dirty fighter at HW. Evander Holyfield was known by his opponenets for his headbutting

Evander also being a dirty fighter does not mean Marciano was any less dirty, it just means he had company.

The only reason you said excellent post is because you don't like Marciano.

The funniest line in his statement is marcianos reign only encompassed 3 years. I guess if Marciano ducked his top contenders and took a 3 year layoff like Dempsey, his reign could have lasted 7 years.

Marciano accomplished so much more in his career than Jack Dempsey, yet McVea rates Dempsey higher...often nitpicking the tiniest little things in marcianos career, while ignoring major flaws in dempseys career

No I was putting Marciano's unbeaten reign into perspective
it was 3 years. If you think facts are funny well good on you! Dempsey's reign has absolutely nothing to do with this thread. You are like the little boy who when his pal says," your Mum's skinny," instantly replies ,"well your Mums fat!"

I rate Dempsey higher than Marciano quite true ,and so did all the writers and trainers who saw them both.

And all the rankings have Dempsey as the significantly bigger puncher. How do you, like them apples?
