But those "cruiserweights" all knocked out modern heavyweight sized contenders so those "lightheavies and cruisers" Rocky was "toiling with" were prety darn destructive for their size.

Like who?Who were these 230 plus pounders with SKILL Marciano beat?I could see Marciano steam rolling every good fighter he fought than having a case but that didn't exist he STRUGGLED with anyone of skill and around 200 pounds..Did he even fight anyone 230 anyway?Another WINNING post on your part,no reality/proof or common sense....:happy

He had a great set of whiskers for a superheavyweight also. Lots of these big heavyweights dont seem to take a great punch. He certainly could take a punch better then Lewis, Wladimir, Price, Wilder and Fury.

    Seamus

I would classify Marciano as having an elite chin at cruiserweight

Your confused. I said The "cruisers and lightheavies marciano was toiling with knocked out modern sized heavyweights". You can check for yourself. Walcott, Moore and Charles battered some big rated guys so they're no ordinary cruiser are they? since modern everyday cruisers can't do this anymore these guys were better. Where are the cruisers now that knock out bigger rated guys?

As I said earlier Joe Louis was 3lb lighter than George Foreman on his best night and just as capable even then as Ray Mercer was. Johnny Shkor was a fringe guy abiut as big as bonecrusher Smith. Rocky knocked him out.

Marciano was never hit by a class super heavyweight, his whiskers in that respect are therefore unproven.

You have no idea what you are talking about..the average Hw is around 240 pounds today unlike 200 in the rocks era and skilled and much better balanced then the off balanced slow Carneras of yesteryear who were far and few between, who athletically do not compare in a boxing ring with the modern HW's,the slow lumbering giants of the past is old news, just look at 6'9 Fury ,how quick on his feet he is and decent speed with the hands,he actually looks like boxer not a predictable robot.Even Ernie Terrell at 6'5 205 was slow as hell and walked with two left feet.you are confusing size with actual skills,i highly doubt Marciano ever even fought any one as good as bone Crusher Smith giving his size and skills even against a young inexperienced Tyson he went 10,i know Marciano wouldn't make it past 3.:toney

Not really,he could handle Carnera, but put a guy who can move a little, hes in trouble. If hes struggling with an age Louis and even small 41 year old Moore there is no evidence he does well with modern 225 plus HW's.

Yeah but in this era Rocky would be 6'6" and 240lb of solid muscle.

You don't appreciate how difficult it is to punch down at a short man in a crouch ,whereas the said short man finds it easy to punch up at a 6'6" opponent.

Mcvey is right. There's plenty of Dwight Qawi fights that are a perfect example of this. He's giving up a lot of height, but it's the taller guy who can't hit him. It was hard to connect to his head and almost impossible for a tall guy to reach his body.

Marciano fought the best of his era and proved his chin was great. It goes both ways Lewis and Wladimir are unproven vs the punches Marciano took.
