After much thought... I agree with elgrancampeon (by the way, nice avater:yep )

Julio Cesar Chavez was the best.

The only fighter in the world at that time that could go thru what JCC went thru vs Taylor without getting discouraged & coming out with the win was JCC. Nobody else could have done it like that, the man is a legend. Best ever at LWWT.

    :thumbsup

You could argue Tszyu's not even top 10 based on resume at the weight. And yes, I can back this up with names and resume if you'd like.

Are you hating Pea? He is one of the only fighters to my knowledge to unify all the titles at 140. Am I wrong?

Did Chavez not have something like 14 or 15 defences of the LWWT title ?

Either way, the thread is H2H but I still pick JCC.

Don't think Sugar Ray did enough at the weight. I'm pretty sure Marty Servo got robbed against him in the rematch, as well. Angott was a good win, though.

I'm talking in terms of resume, in which case there are quite a few who fought at the weight who would rate higher, as well as quite a few fighters I'd rate higher head to head. Not hating, just throwing it out there. There's a lot more quality to have fought at the weight than people give credit for.

I always liked Leroy Haley..... He was a pacman who was already 30 when he won his title against the slick SAUL MAMBY! Haley was reamed twice by the judges in his two title fight losses to Bruce Curry..... Haley was KOOL!

Lonnie Smith looked like GOD in '85 against Billy Costello on ESPN! Jesus, that was a great performance... Too bad Smith could NEVER repeat himself....

I love Locche. If he had any kind of a punch, I'd put him #1 with no hesitation. As it stands, he's a bad matchup with a good deal of great fighters at the weight because he just didn't have the firepower.

He was an absolute wizard defensively, though. For my money, I don't think it gets any better than what he could do. Shutting out Cervantes in their first fight is as good a win as you'll find at the weight.

It also proves he had the pure boxing ability to give more well rounded fighters you speak of hell. I don't think anyone at the weight would've had an easy time with him, and he has the skills to upset quite a few. I think he'd have a field day with the Hatton types.
