Nice thread. If we look at Fury, his best win was Klitschko, who was 3 months of his 40s, and that was like 30% version of himself.
Klitschko in AJ fight was better prepared.

Wilder in the second fight was like what ? 35 years old, and in the 3rd one was 36 ....
Who Fury have actually beaten to be fair ?

And he is ducking Whyte now, yep pathetic ...

A better question is. Who has Fury fought other than Wilder and an old Klitschko????

    Why is Fury ducking Whyte?

    A) Whyte is too easy mission for him and waste of time.
    B) Same as A
    C) Same as A and B

It's funny how Ruiz's claim to fame is his 'fast hands'. The reason he has faster hands than average at HW is because he's not a real HW, he's a fatso. It's like making a LW obese and then saying he's got amazing fast hands compared to some SMW etc.

What also comes with Ruiz's fast hands is his small stature, small reach, below average power. His chin seems to be good maybe due to the fat insulation around his brain and skull, but when has it truly been tested? He took a few shots from AJ, but so have many others at HW.
Arreola had him hurt a number of times, which is an indication that maybe the famed chin isn't quite what it seems. Arreola has decent HW power but in his prime he couldn't hurt Adamek, Stiverne etc. as badly as he did Ruiz, despite landing plenty, so I'm questioning Ruiz's chin being so great.

Unless Ruiz starts beating top guys, AJ's loss/win with the human liposuction vat is going to age pretty badly.

The Parker win already aged badly, and it's the same as Ruiz, unless he picks up good wins against top guys instead of all these 'warm ups' and old gatekeepers ...

Then the gold medallists ... Wlad retired straight after. Povetkin scraped through a few fights then retired. Pulev has turned to fighting shot MMA guys.

If AJ loses to Usyk again, his resume is going to be absolute smoke and mirrors.

    Excellent post

We don't agree a lot but you've made some good points, although Povetkin beat Whyte who himself has a better resume than Wilder so you really can't drag Joshua's entire resume down without dragging Fury's as well

    Or

    D) Fury has avoided almost all the top heavyweights his entire career. That's why he has only fought 4 of the current top 50 and you'd be hard pressed to come up with 5 good names on his resume

Yes. But what's wrong with that?
The thread is openly addressing the issue of the age of AJ's opponents.
Povetkin was 39. Wlad was 41. Pulev was 39. We know that. Yes, it is implied in the question. But nothing wrong with that.

I think every good fighter in history is questioned if they feast on old men. It's a legit question.

I would say Parker or Ruiz.
    They are about equal.

Wilder was 34 in the second fight.
Wilder was 35 in the third fight (although almost 36).
He was 33 in the first fight, for your records.

He was no spring chicken but younger than Klitschko, Takam, Povetkin and Pulev.
Joshua lost to a 34 year old Usyk, for the record.

I don't think 33, 34, 35 is particularly old these days for a heavyweight. But 36 might be pushing it, in most cases.
39 is clearly old. So the OP seems quite fair.

You love to talk about Fury. His record isn't much good, yeah.
But I don't think this thread is about Fury.
You seem to have a slight obsession.

    Maybe.
But then everything here is nitpicking.
Wilder made 10 defences of his WBC belt or whatever. I could say they were mostly crappy challengers, but that's maybe nitpicking. Fury has a thin resume after we get past Old Wlad and Wilder really, but maybe that is nitpicking.
I think this forum would dry up if we didn't do some nitpicking.

    That's fair.
I think some wins are better than others.

Despite the Op taking a dump on Joshua let's look at the bigger picture.

As with any fighter we can look at the finer details and critique because someone was a bum or someone was passed prime.

The point being under this level of scrutiny no one holds up as you can only fight people in your era and it's not as simple as fighting everyone at there absolute prime. That's not how it has ever worked ever.

There was critique of Lennox in another thread. however the reality is that Lennox although a similar age to his contempories clearly peaked later in his career meaning some of his bigger named victories were where the opposition was passed it's best. that's not Lennox's fault it's just the way things panned out.

Now moving onto Joshua who get's a lot of hate on hear some justified some not.
The fact of the matter is he has the deepest resume at Heavy and it's not even close.

Fury and Wilder's resume by contrast is paper thin especially taking into account that the weight they have is just in fighting each other. Take that out what do you have? you literally just have Vlad for Fury and that's it...

In conclusion two of the three best Heavies of this era have the weakest resumes that you could have with both being champions.

Also those resumes are very unlikely to get much deeper considering the age and motivation of both fighters. As Wilder may not fight again and Fury only seems interested in a money fight with Joshua.

Wilder was 10 days away from his 36 birthday in the third fight, that's why i said he was 36. Still my points stand.

But let me ask you and the rest of Fury fanatics( i always said you are a very decent poster outside of your Fury bias/denfending, so don't take it personal), digging into AJ resume trying to prove a point for Fury is pathetic.
    Especially bringing AJ opponents age.

Let me expose you and all of Fury fanboys.

Both Wilder/Fury are in the HW long before AJ. Exactly 5 year, which in any sport is a huge time.

Why in the blue hell both of them have such a crab resume ?
AJ resume is by far the best, even tho he is giving this 5 year of time.

Why on the blue hell they didn't fight the guys like Povetkin, Pulev, Parker, Takam, Ruiz, and both Fury/Wilder is ducking Whyte big time, for whatever the reason is.
And i can bring a lot more names that was in very good shape from Klitschko time, yet neither Wilder/Fury was interested.

They were all interested in fighting bums after bum, climb and get a title shot, and then have an easy time.

Both Povetkin and Pulev may have been old, that's true but they were mandatory and they earned their spot. And they had only 1 loss a time of the fight - both to Klitschko.
Joshua may have many flaws but he is always willing to fight dangerous opponents.

When you fight the best in the division, when they are hungry and on point(not so old and washed), you are going to nick a few loses.
Thats why we see so many UFC HW fighters even tho they are top levels have loses. Not cause they suck, but because they fought the best and dangerous inform opponents.
