Foreman retired because of Larry Holmes. Lennox wouldn't fight Holmes as an old man 20 years later.
Mercer got clowned by old man Holmes and then went on to give Lewis one of his toughest fights of his career.

But, b/c of the fact that it was the era that every American family had a console TV to sit down in front of, and the big fight were all telecast on FREE tv, this 70s era gets the most props.

It was a golden era for America in general. We were growing, most everyone was working, men were men and women were women.

Of course, the 70s is gonna get hella props in history. Everyone was happier back then, and many of us recall Saturday afternoons listening to Howard Cosell calling an Ali fight as part of that happiness.:think

Why do you cut, paste and wrap posts in tags instead of just directly clicking quote.
Are you some type of jackass?

Good post. Lennox would definitely not went life and death and needed to cheat to beat a 40 y/o drunken British journeyman who weighed 170lbs most his career.

For that matter, Mercer woulda KTFO Cooper in a rd 1000/1000X:deal

I like Marciano and Louis, but think of all the 200lbers around today they'd have to fight. There typical competition would be considered fodder today. Guys like Marco Huck would be considered monsters back then. RJJ, even at 45, would be the slickest HW on the planet, and probably the heaviest puncher too.:think

    Muhammed Ali.

    Best resume and all-around ability.

Lewis resume isn't that good. His best win is either an old Holyfield or Vitali, who was a late replacement. He was losing to Vitali when the fight was stopped (yes I know TKO6). What are his other career defining wins? Ruddock? mental midget Golota? Shot Tyson? 1-D Tua? Mercer (whom he scrapped by)? You can say he didn't have the competition available but that is bad luck I guess. You don't really know how he would do against Larry Holmes, prime Mike Tyson, prime Holyfield, etc.

Not to mention he was stopped by two journeymen.
