Out of that list, John Ruiz.

 

Shannon Briggs wasn't very good when he beat Foreman and was even worse when he beat Liakovich, who also should be on the list.

 

Hart has a victory over Jack Johnson

Sharkie beat Wills and Godfrey

Where are Maskaev and Briggs?

 

I guess a lot depends on whether you include alphabet champions.

If you do then I don't think that any of the guys listed would be in the running with guys like Michael Bent and Bruce Seldon.

Hart, Willard,Sharkey, Carnera, Braddock and Douglas were lineal champions which means that they all beat the man on a given night.

Ruiz and Smith could theoreticaly be listed among the stronger alphabet champions.

 

Hart never really beat the man.

Sharkey beat the man. Only problem is that the man became the man, by beating sharkey himself.

 

Ive not seen enough of the older guys to say but Douglas was not a bad fighter,i dont think Ruiz is as poor as some people make him out to be.

 

He did post a win over Jack Johnson however controvertial the circumstances.

We could say that for practical purpouses, Sharkey won the first Schmeling fight by TD, and lost second fight by decision.

I might take exception with Rahmen. He beat Lewis fair and sqaure, even through he was murdered in the rematch. If you count alphebet titles, was a two timer. I think Corrie Sanders is a good win, and though he did not get the offical nod agaisnt Tua in teh second fight, a lot of guys thought he won it, and it at least shows he is in that caliber.
