I don't mean prime for prime. Who is the best opponent Floyd ever fought, at the time period he fought them.

My vote goes to Castillo, with Corrales a close second.

yeah Castillo, and that says a lot. Obviously Castilllo is a fine fighter but he was never the ATG the likes of Hatton claim he is. A lot of his rep comes from the war with Chico which he lost and they won a rematch by cheating. How many losses does Castillo have?
basically Mayweather is guilty of handpicking fights, lets see him in there with Cotto, Mosley or Margarito. He'd run like **** against Cotto especially.

Castillo had his rep established long before the Corrales fights.

anyone who knows anything about Castillo knows this.

Corrales was undefeated when he faced Mayweather and was knocking everyone out at that time - so I would say - at the time of the fight - Corrales was the best opponent.

Castillo gave Mayweather his toughest fight - but I wouldn't call him the best opponent. Oscar and Judah rank above Castillo as far as boxing skills and level of comp - but Corrales has to be the best opponent at the time of the fight.

oK but how many losses did he have up to that point? I;m saying he was never an ATG fighter, no way....and his stock went artificially high after the 2 fights with Chico.

judah has superb athletic ability, but he doesn't come close to JLC when it comes down to boxing skills.

He was never an atg fighter. Thats true. He was a top class fighter though.

In his fight against chico, he was dominating the fight, was just about to finish it, but got caught with a haymaker and got held up by the ropes. Very unlucky.

yeah I agree with that, and I also forgot he only lost that fight as Chico was cheating with the gumshield antics.
Don't get me wrong, prime Castillo was one hard *******...but never an ATG fighter and unless you want to count and old and always oveerated De La Hoya, then the guy that claims to be the best of all time has never even faced an ATG.

What many other options would one have besides Castillo, Judah, Corrales and Hoya? He considers most of his opponents C class such as Gatti and Hatton, then you have guys like Sharmba Mitchell, Victoriano Sosa, Henry Bruseles, Goyo Vargas in between. It has to be Castillo who drew and lost to Stevie Johnston, Corrales was undefeated but it was as much a mismatch as Gatti n Chicanito Hernandez ( props to Mayweather of course), let's face it...

Old Oscar. Mayweather won by a SD. The fight must have been really tough.

    Castillo drew and beat Johnston.

Also, to the guy who said Chico, yes he was knocking out opponents, but Chico had fought absolutely noone before fighting Floyd. Castillo was better than Corrales, IMO
