A close loss to Jones equals an outclassing of Kessler in terms of performance showcase, IMO.

But Hopkins' resume is mostly impressive from consistency and amount, rather than great victories.

You could put either keith holmes or william joppy in the top 50, i'm sure boxrec does.

Wghich leads me to ask another hypothetical question. if a fighter beat 100 opponents, and retires 100-0, yet all of them are poor, where does he rank? It's a great record if you look at the numbers, yet there is not a single big win. Hypothetically, is the undefeated fighter an ATG? I don't think so.

And once again, this is not confined to 175lbs. I just used that as an example. Has Hopkins beaten any top 50 fighter, in the weight class he fought them at? Tito at 160lbs, Winky at 175lbs etc..

And Tito, Holmes or Joppy aren't top 50 middleweights all-time. Maybe top 100, but not 50. They don't have the resume, talent or combination of both.

Hopkins beat some fighters that are going to the hall of fame. If you look at both Joe C. and Hopkins who has fought the better fighters? Hopkins has fought the better fighters. Both Hopkins and Joe C. are both hall of famers.

Assuming this is an attempt to belittle Hopkins in order to help elevate Calzaghe past the shortcomings of his resume...

Hopkins has beaten three fighters who were widely considered top ten pound-for-pound contenders, and arguably top five contenders, at the time he fought them: Trinidad, Tarver, and Winky.

To date, Calzaghe has never beaten an opponent of that caliber--ever.

What? Nobody has proven this wrong, or come close to. You get a lot of longwinded drivel, but nothing else.

 Not at all. I'm not a big Calzaghe fan in the slightest. I do however, see right through Hopkins' **** poor resume. Any reference to Calzaghe is simply a comparison in the double standards of how people percieve the two.

Tito was ranked highly, yes, but he did not prove himself at middleweight. He wasn't the same fighter there. He was ranked P4P because of what he achieved at 147lbs, not his one win over Joppy.

Tarver was also ranked fairly high, but not top 10. He didn't deserve to be top 15, I don't think.

Wright, like Tito, was ranked for his wok at 160lbs, where he was a good fighter.

But their rankings at the time is beside the point, because Hopkins beat a lot of fighters who were moving up. Tito was ranked high for his work at 147lbs, Winky for what he did at 160lbs, De La Hoya for his wins at 147lbs too, and so on. Manny Pacquiao could fight Kelly Pavlik, and he'd still be in the P4P ranks befoe the fight, yet there is no strength in saying "Pavlik beat a middleweight who happened to be ranked 2 P4P".

Where does Tito rank at middleweight? Where do Tarver and Winky rank at 175lbs? All time.

So you're suggesting that all of Hopkins' wins were "poor"? If you're not suggesting this, then your example is garbage, and your post leads to nothing.

    No, it was ****ing hypotehtical.

What I was suggesting is that Hopkins opposition was not great. Not poor, but nothing special. My point was that is being a load of F-class fighters impressively, worther of a true great? I don't think so.

Hopkins is similar to this,s. he has a lot of "decent/good" wins, but not one "great" win. Therefore, can a fighter be ranked as an ATG without a career defining victory over a truly elite fighter?

Trinadad was elite when Hopkins beat him, he not only beat him, but he knocked him out in the 11th round. He was the underdog against Tarver as well, he beat him almost every round and also knocked him down during the fight. He is also the only man to TKO Glen Johnson, a guy that has fought everyone and anyone and has never been knocked out by anyone else during his long career.

yep. but i doubt anybody cares for hopkins anymore the same way calzaghe fans does..and they are much more than Hops'..

Hopkins may be the greater fighter but this time, Cal will bring more money..

    1. I realize it was "****ing" hypothetical, but that doesn't shrug off the point I made. If your example and the real situation you're comparing it to don't really fit, then your example serves no purpose. Understand?

    2. If you weren't suggesting his opposition is "poor", then your example was wasted by using this description. So are you saying Hopkins' opposition includes a "load of F-class fighters"? If so, name them - since I don't agree at all.

    3. So now you're retracting your point, it seems. Now you're saying his wins weren't over F-class opposition, but rather they were "decent/good" with no "great" wins.

Basically, show me how your bull**** example fits into this scenario.
