Tarver was on this list, as it stands, for many people. Either way it is to a degree irrelevant by virtue of the fact that Hopkins was planning to move to Light Heavyweight, and he did so in fighting the best possible opposition. If you're discrediting him for fighting the best possible fighter at that weight class, based on him not being high enough "pound for pound" for your liking, that's a pathetic joke.
And then there is the discreditting of Tarver for what he has done since the fight (beating Murqui...), but give Calzaghe full credit for beating Eubank, when he got beaten badly is his last two fights after Joe and then promptly retired. The hypocriticalness (that really aint a word...is it? ) of it all is what is getting to me the most.
Tell me about it. Before Hopkins dismantled Tarver, Tarver was being hailed as the top Light Heavyweight in the world by everyone. Recognized by everyone as the best. Installed as a massive favourite leading into his fight with Hopkins. I was among the few who picked Hopkins (when people said Hopkins was too small, didn't look good enough against Taylor, etc.), and then after the fight the morons decide rather than handing it to Hopkins, they discredit Tarver. Pathetic.
Or the fact that they keep saying his output is bad....yet other than Taylor, where his whole gameplan was to pull back on his output, he outworked and outlanded EVERYONE he has fought dating back to Roy Jones? Its ridiculous.
I think a lot of people simply haven't followed Hopkins' career whatsoever. They haven't seen him in his prime, only really his Taylor fights.
he looked elite when was destroying William Joppy in 5 rds...Joppy was a legit middleweight titleholder...
Let me tell you why you're a total noob Hopkins has lost to 3 fighters, not 4 Clinton Mitchell (his first loss) is nowhere near being even close to one of the best fighters Hopkins has fought. Even the most dumb**** haters who have never seen a Hopkins fight in their lives but still hate him know that, yet you don't.
good post amsterdam, i'm impressed with your open minded thoughts most of the time, its nice to see a Joe C fan see reality, I know every now and then you get carried away about Joe C but its all good :good
I can't believe they even allow you to being this post. I mean why are u trying to degrade hopkins? maybe he never fought anyone at his weight that was an all time great but come on, the way hopkins was looking at middleweight was almost unstoppable. This isn't the times of hearns and hagler were there where 4 amazing fighters in each weight class. The last time we saw that was like 5 years ago with Corrales,Mayweather, Freitas and Casamayor. Hopkins has done and fought great opposition wether they were top class in his weight class that's up to your own jurisdiction, but he did take great risks. Calzaghe is good but he has fought all of his career in a relative unatractive weight class, a weight class that has really not produce many great champions or a weight class that many great fighters chose to oversee. This whole topic really makes no sense, this is yet another futile attempt by a hater of a fighter to bring down his stock to raise up the stock of the one they like. Kessler better than most of hops competition? are you delirious? Kessler hasn't done enough to even be considered great yet.
