Don King. He was a non-boxer (for want of a better word) who intimidated boxers - even world champions - and was able to rule the sport for a generation.

He does but Jacobs helped him behind the scenes in return for prime blocks of seating tickets,

This topic always reminds me of a quote from west coast promoter George Parnassus. When asked why he made the double header of Jose Napoles v Hedgemon Lewis and Ruben Olivares v Jesus Pimental when he would have been assured of a sell out separately he said, “The idea is not to be the richest promoter but the best.” I’m sure that was every promoter’s motto.

Arum is the goat for me and Tito Lectoure did the most with the most "mid" talent to me. He turned those guys into national stars.

Over here in the 40s 50s and 60s Jack Solomon, then Harry Levene, onto Duff / Barrett/, behind the scene Jarvis Astaire, onto Warren, there must have been promoters in the north of England as well.

Don King in the big leagues — put on the most high-profile fights, promoted the top fighters, some of the best (and longest) cards ever … you might see a former or even current world champ fighting well before most of hte seats were filled with some shows that started at 4 p.m. and went past midnight.

Don Chargin in the sort of mid-major leagues with his West Coast shows for years and years, showcasing top talent and many title fights.

Russell Peltz in the minor leagues, so to speak. He did promote some world title fights, but he was more of a local/regional promoter with his smaller shows at places like the Blue Horizon and many of his second-tier casino cards in Atlantic City.

Don King was great at pivoting to the hot fighter, the hot region, the hot country. Lose Tyson? Push Chavez. He had his fingers in a lot of talent pools. And he was ruthless to a fault.

But those cards in the late 80's and 90's were gold.

    Don King.

Proper piece of **** human but you can't deny his talent in selling a fight.

His "double-shock power" carry on when talking about Iron Mike still makes me laugh.
