Of the many rumors:

• Would dip his hands in water with his wraps on, virtually turning them into casts. < Bernard Hopkins even talked about this.
• Illegal wrappings, which he was caught with and made to correct.
• Went low several times to keep from getting knocked the **** out.

dont be stupid, carlos ortiz fought in the 50s and 60s that's why a lot of puertorricans of today dont talk about him especially the young guys.. but if you talk to the old timers they will tell you that ortiz was the best of all time... ask any mexican of today if he knows who carlos zarate, miguel canto or ruben oliveras is and they wont know.. if you ask them who is the best mexican boxers they will alll probably say julio cesar chavez cause he was the most recently

Tito didn't have illegal hand wraps, they just didn't like how they wrapped his hands.

Cotto may have no been aggressive in the later rounds, but he was not running. There is a difference between using your legs and fighting back, and just trying to get away.

 

I was always wondering, is there any proof about the illegal wraps that I always hear about?
I've always suspected since it was so easy for tito to snap heads back with small jabs, but I couldnt find any definitive proof just accusations from people.

 

They were just not wrapped correctly, they used extra tape which is not allowed. I don't know how people expect tape to make you punch harder....

 

hopkings people were mad that titos father was putting extra tape on the wrists and up the hand and they didnt like that.. but there was no tape on the knuckles and boxers hit with their knucles not with the top of their hands.. people are just haters and since tito lost that fight they make a big deal and run with it making up stories that's all
