Really, so that is why Sultan fought for the Russian boxing team at the Olympics, and is having his first World title defense in Moscow.

    You are an idiot.

    1) Boytsov is russian
    2) There are a lot of russian muslims. religion is not equivalant to nationality.

    What a tool.

Exactly, what is the deal, if you are muslim relegion you dont count as being Russian?

The British claim every imigrant you could ever imagine as being British. Danny Williams, Audley Harrison, Herbie Hide , ETC, yeah they look real British. However , if a Russian born man (Chagaevs dad) , but has some , tartar blood you dont count as Russian, my god!! Even if Chagaev looks totally white.

Maybe you should of made this topic called :

"Best HW from the former USSR? "

Wouldn't need this BS. And if this topic was indeed called that, it would have to go with Wlad Klitschko, then Ruslan Chagaev.

    Boytsov is russian
    http://www.boitcov.com/index.php?page=82
who also happens to be a muslim. (it's a religion not a race).

now , if you're saying that they have nothing to do with russians because of their religion , then it's a different issue.

I am waiting for Boytsov to step up, before for judging him. I have no doubt that Boytsov is Russian.

He is still is only 21 years old, and has yet to face a test in the pro ranks.

Interesting poll. Russian or not, I understand the question as: Who is the best heavyweight from the former Soviet Union?
Between Maskaev and Chagaev I would choose Maskaev. As an amateur boxer I would prefer Chagaev, but as a pro I trust in Maskaev.
Liakhovic has had one very good fight, against Brewster. And that's it.
Valuev is a phenomenon, but he never could convince me as a boxer. Despite his huge physical advantage, some of his wins were close, not to say controversial.
Povetkin looks very promising, much more than Dimitrenko. His latest win, over Donald, was very impressive. I hadn't expected it to be so clear.
Ibragimov... Clear win over Briggs, good win over Whitaker. Only a draw vs. Austin. A lot remains to be seen...
So it's either Maskaev or Povetkin. Hard to decide...

edit: Oops, Liakhovic is not even in the poll... Well, it doesn't matter anyway, does it?

    Valuev is Russian
    Ibragimov is Russian
    Povetkin is Russian
Maskaev is a Russian Citizen ( Both his parents are Russian)
Chagaev is at least half Russian blood

Who is the best Russian HW , of these ? I dont want to hear any more bull****, about every fighter on this list, some how not being Russian.

Holy crist, people have claimed Sultan, Boytsov, Chagaev, Maskaev are not Russian.

Chagaevs mom is Chechen ( a pissed off muslim region of Russia), and Uzbek. Chagaev's dad is Dagestani (Another Russian muslim region) and part tarter. Chagaev is at least half Russian.

Both Maskaev parents were Russian , but I believe his father was in the military and relocated to Kazakhstan during the Soviet era.

Sultan and Boytsov are both Russian, despite being Muslim.
