Tell me who said that? What some of us are saying is that JMM is just more technically superior. PBF is great at it also but some just think JMM is superior in that department. PBF does rely on his great talents also. I mean the leaping left hook and lunging right hand leads are part of his arsenal. Would you consider them "textbook"? He gets away with some stuff because of his athleticism. But we also realize that he is a great technically fighter also. We just think JMM is more superior. No shame in that.
True. As is the following: My comment was more in the line of thinking that Floyd will be getting out of the game soon... Very soon (in a perfect world, early 09 after Cotto).
You actually have misunderstood the question. Mayweather's footwork IS better in the composite sense. Marquez has the TECHNICALLY BETTER footwork, unquestionably.
See! I think he DID mis-interpret "technically inferior" with "inferior" There IS a difference. Kilon22 says it best - leaping left hooks is NOT great technique. Any trainer would tell a novice to NOT do that. Yet Floyd throws them VERY impressively, AND effectively.
Floyd is better technically. He has defended himself better to the point of not being knocked down the way JMM has. He also has more offensive tools, and his ability to adjust and dominate late rounds is very rare.
Would you say leaping left hooks, lunging right hands and backing up in straight lines was "good techinical boxing"?
