Someone who constantly brings up an UKAD ban from a gym in Sheffield gives the no. 1 to someone with double that number just in his family :yikes:

When have I constantly brought up a ukad ban from a gym in Sheffield? I have pointed the finger and called at Kid in the past if that's what your referring to. Your spinning yarns (as usual)

Dom ingle for me. Weather hes the best coach...not 100 percent sure. But as an overall package...the way they train their fighters...the experience...the amount of kids they brought through from nothing...the teaching hes had from the old man. Hes the number one for me followed by booth. Two trainers that give their fighters tools to avoid being hit. Its boxing...you cant stop your fighters being hit...or even knocked out etc. But what both of them do is give them the tools to minimise it...unlike most british trainers.

Just watching brook, kid galahad, groves and haye etc under ingle and booth. They spent most of their careers beating on the opponent and taking very little back. Even galahads recent knockout...he hardly took anything till he got his clock cleaned...that can happen to anyone tbf. In comparison to say scott quigg under gallagher...who used to basically outlast opponents taking shots along the way till his strength etc got the upperhand.

Like davidson as well. Hes absolutely obsessed. Might not have the experience....or even all the right answers but that level of detail and obsession can sometimes make up for that. Mcguigan good as well...but think he burns out the fighters a bit too much.

Honourable mention to billy graham. Who,s defence was basically offense...but seemed to work well cause his man done most of the hitting. It was a very good form of defence...by getting his fighters stamina tremendous....his fighters usually spent most of the fight beating up opponents and not taking too much back because the opponent was too busy defending than offending.

I’ve got to say Shane at the moment. What he did with Okolie was nothing short of a miracle - took the clingiest most awful to watch boxer from these shores since Junior Witter to making him look like a Cruiserweight Lennox Lewis, madness. His other boxers have shown good improvements too, though I would say Fowler should have done better v Smith.

Like bbjc I too am a fan of a coach that teaches a boxer to defend themselves properly. Love or hate boxfit Ben, but his strategy in the first Fury fight was golden and what got big Tyson to the end. People talk about the change in the second and third bouts, but Fury was less than 6 months since coming back and was nowhere near in top condition. Inbetween the 1st and 2nd fights Tyson had another warm up (Swartz) and a good bout against a contender in Wallin to get himself in that tip top condition.

Shane and Ben are flavour of the month at the moment but time will tell.
Wood has a hard fight with Conlan coming up.
Shane told us how great Fowler was looking in the gym and I've still not forgotten him training Haye on a Superyacht or the Frampton emails.

I'd have to disagree on this.

Fowler was really jumping up in levels that night and I think he took the fight purely because it was win win + he's not getting any younger. If he wins, then happy days his career and sky rocketed but if he loses... he's lost to a world level opponent, boosted his profile, earned a nice little packet and Eddie sorts him out with a future opportunity.

Most people felt Fowler would be in control early and then Smith's gulf in experience and class would take over - which is basically what happened. I think Fowler's best chance was going to be to try and catch Smith cold early or cut him up with those sharp early shots.

Fowler looked very good in those first 3 rounds, he looked sharp, was first to the punch and he definitely buzzed Smith more than once. But as most expected, Smith started to take control and the gulf began to show.... the first right hand was a beauty and then he finished him off with the left to the body and then to the head. Enjoyable fight.

That’s a fair observation. To be honest, I thought Fowler was going to be a little bit too fresh, and have the work rate to trouble Smith down the line but what we saw was Smith coming on stronger with his experience. That said, there hasn’t been that much of a noticeable improvement since he’s been with Shane, but I suppose he’s not a miracle worker.

    Where's my boy Mark Tibbs?

To be fair, he's not training Whyte anymore, so hasn't got many high-profile boxers atm. But definitely belongs on the list as an option!

I feel Rob Mccracken would have had more votes had he not just had that one howler against usyk

Did great things with Froch and Joshua( prior to that) two of the best uk fighters of recent times. & with the GB squad.

I'm sure u know JM, these changes take a hell of a long time and can be an even longer process for fighters that have a big history. But there again Fowler has been with Shane long enough now. It must be 2 years easy.
A trainer would need at least a year with someone before notable changes were confidently instilled imo
    That's great.

He performed great in the gym we were told. To call his beating a great performance is more than pushing it.
