Sam Peter, only 27 and he has already accomplished more than anyone else on that list at Heavyweight, and is pretty equal to Chagaev in resume, but if the two were to fight, Peter would be the favorite over his illness prone opposition. Peter has beaten top 10 guys like Toney and Maskaev, as well as giving a competitive fight with Wlad in September of 05, one that gave Wlad a few panic attacks and forced him to clinch 97 times, and also being floored 3 times in the process. Peter is still a work in progress, we all remember most boxing insiders and commentators saying Wlad will never be anything in the Heavyweight division after being knocked out by both Brewster and Sanders, at the time he was 27, Manny got ahold of him and the rest is history, 2 years from almost to the day of his lost to Brewster, he beat Chris Bryd to win the IBF belt in April of 06, so dont dismiss Peter just yet, he still has time to get better and continue his march to being the best in the division, where he is currently ranked 2 in every respected site or mag.
Based on Who I'd rather watch on T.V./Fight I'd have to go with David Haye the other names besides Sam Peter are pretty much undercard material.
I agree Bonin is far from being a world class heavyweight. Still, I was impressed at how quickly Haye stopped him. I voted for Povetkin not Haye. I think Haye will have difficulty when he fights a bona-fide world class heavyweight who punches hard and has a good chin.
The voting on these Boards is insane, how the hell does Peter get only 4 votes, is he really that hated? ****ing Arreola who fought nobody is even ahead of Peter, oh but weak chinned Haye gets the majority of votes, the guy got laid out by light punching Thompson, and was floored by a partially blocked punch from him, yeah, he's going to save the division let me tell you. I cant wait until a Peter or Wlad touches him with the leather, his heads getting bounced off the canvas in no time and I cant wait to see it.
Haye is indeed vastly overrated for someone with 1 fight at HW. Can we see him fight at least a fringe contender before we crown him the next big thing?
Peter may technically be young, but he has also been around for a while and is the WBC champ. I would assume most voted for young guys with potential.
david haye will be just about the only current HW that can not only throw a monsterous punch, but has got the amazing speed that will electrify the division once again.
Fair enough, but the fact that Chagaev and Peter got very little votes, while guys that are little proven to not proven at all at the Heavyweight division in Povetkin and Haye, got the most votes. Peter and Chageav are battle tested champs, under the age of 30, they both would have a field day with the majority on that list, including Haye.
Of this particular list, Sam Peter is the best by far. But I do like Povetkin; he doesn't really do one thing spectacular, but he works very hard, and I think he has the will to fight good fighters.
