Sonny Liston was the better fighter in the ring. George Foreman is the greater fighter with the better resume and accomplishments.

Head-to-head? Liston, fractionally. Both against each other, & other ATGs. I rank solely on CV’s though, & Foreman comfortably bests Liston there.

ThatOne, could you clarify in which sense you mean better? Because that will decide my vote.

    I’d have to say Liston.

Liston is the better boxer imo. But I honestly believe this is a toss up. In my mind, Foreman is the only boxer who has a significant chance of beating Liston.

That’s quite a hill you’re going to have to defend. I hope you packed plenty of ammo & a lunch.

Liston vs Foreman is a premier matchup of the two most fearsome heavyweights of all time. I lean towards Liston and his jab controlling distance and dragging George into the later rounds. But I've no qualms about picking Foreman here. Probably no wrong answer

A prime Ali at the very least doesn’t have a significant chance of beating Liston?

Yes. Though I doubt any of us would be surprised to see Liston face down on the canvas against Foreman.

I also would favor Liston against Foreman but also give Foreman a significant chance of beating Liston.

Ali is the only lock imo.

It is tough to pick between these two great fighters. One thing I do believe is that a past prime Liston could have easily replicated George's knockout of Moorer. In fact, he likely knocks Moorer out even earlier than George did.
