Considering skill, ring generalship, and resume. I personally think that Pernell in his prime was superior to Floyd.

Whitaker... but I have 'em closer than some here do.

And as someone mentioned above, Floyd still has time. You never know, he could go through Pac, Shane and Williams. That changes the discussion a bit.

I am curious, resume wise, obviously whitaker gets the nod in who hes fought.... but what about opponents beaten? i dont know much about whitakers era so im simply asking, if whitaker beat better opponents then mayweather?

regardless, Mayweather is in his prime or a bit past it, but still has plenty of things to do before his legacy is complete, if he goes on to beat Pac, Shane, and whoever else.... his legacy improves greatly.

    Whitaker hands down..

the fact is, a prime De La Hoya could not even touch Whitaker while an older version of the former have pushed Mayweather in the first half of their fight.. it goes to show you that Mayweather is not the defensive genius that we think he is...

besides, who have Mayweather face north of 135? he only looked spectacular when fighting average fighters..

even Zab, a slightly average fighter tagged him with some good shots.. De Marcus staggered him.. Castillo defeated him in the first fight..

I dislike Zab about as much as anybody but in his prime, when Floyd fought him arguably, Zab was not average by a long shot.

He beat Roger Mayweather in his 12th fight whereas Roger has 30 fights

beat Greg Haughen, Jose Luis Ramirez, Freddie Pendelton, Azumah Nelson, Jorge Paez, Buddy McGirt, JC Vasquez, Jake Rodriguez, Juan Nazario

plus he fought a prime Tito, Oscar, and Chavez

Pernell for me, but Floyd is still fighting and though I'm not a Floyd fan, he's going up against Pacquiao and after that maybe Mosley or Berto. He's got time. He's a young man and though he doesn't really care about his legacy maybe, he loves spending that money and he may be in the ring for a few more years. We'll see.

    Thank you :good

If you were just counting wins, and not overall resume (that youd have to give to whitaker due to oscar, jcc, tito, ect) would you rank whitakers best wins over mayweathers best wins?

I know the fighters you listed, ilke azumah nelson, what i have seen of him, the guy is a complete monster, but i dont know if he was still a beast when whitaker faced him or if he was completely past it or what, thats why im asking.

From what ive seen of whitaker, he seems phenominal.

Its hard to beat Whitaker's wins over Chavez and Nelson. He not only beat them...but he made them look ordinary.

I cant believe he beat Nelson in such a manner, im going to have to view this fight. Ive seen Nelson fight i think it was Sanchez.... and the guy seemed straight up scary in ability, just a bit green.

thank you, ill go check this out. this blows my mind.

:good Whilst I can remember how brilliant Whitaker was, I had actually forgotten just who he had beat! The above is some resume and the truly great fighters who did beat him were, as you rightly pointed out, in their prime (And the Chavez decision was a disgrace!). Whilst Floyd can improve his already rather impressive resume would that make him the better boxer? Whitaker was a defensive genius, the best I have ever seen, a superb tactician and his ring generalship was masterful and it is only now (As I am getting on:)) that I fully appreciate his skills. Floyd is a superb fighter and in his last few fights he seems to have improved with each fight and he has been making excellent fighters look like amateurs, and he may very well have "More to come". This one imo is close!!!

PBF. Better ability to adapt, more complete fighter and is the best p4p.
