Marciano is in a hitter's stance. And as pointed out Williams is in full uniform which would include baseball shoes.

Rocky with 5'10" Eisenhower and 6'2" Dimaggo.

Who knows the exact height but Rocky just isn't the dwarf you want him to be. He didn't appear that much shorter than Matthews and Moore.

I know people who knew Rocky well and an Irish guys who's father was great friends with Rocky, he said his father was 6' and Rocky may have been a hair shorter. He said Rocky had a relaxed stance and did not always stand up strait but no way he was shorter than 5"11, in fact Box rec lists him at 5'11 only the revisionists on ESB make him shorter. Another thing they make his arms shorter as well, they say 68-69inches but Mike Tyson had a 70 inch reach and it did not stop him from stopping guys with 80+ inch reach and Tyson was 5"10

As early as the Charles fight Louis said he saw the openings, but they were gone before he could take advantage of them.

There is another thread on here showing Marciano giving a TV interview in Australia where he himself states his wingspan as being 67"

I assume he knew more about his own measurements than any and every poster on any internet forum.

Dude, Dean is wearing giant heeled dress shoes as his usual. Rocky and Jerry are in boxing boots that don't look to have much lift. Get over it.

Dean was said to be 6'1" in his special shoes so the 1.5 sounds right.

I agree, a lot of people compare the young Louis vs Baer etc. and can see he aged but I agree that he was still a capable guy and still had power, reflexes normally would slow but his conditioning was excellent. I would pick him to beat Quarry by UD and possibly beat James Toney and Evander at the same age but I know these remarks may have a emotional reaction with some posters.

He was vastly diminished, but even a Joe Louis functioning at 65-70% is still a hell of a force to be reckoned with. We saw how Foreman and Holmes functioned at only about two thirds of their best in the 90's. This was a similar case for Louis in the early 50's.

Which makes him like most of the big fellows through history. Too slow to take advantage of openings. That's why despite the advantages size gave them, they didn't do all that well over the decades. Off the film, Lyle had plenty of openings against Quarry, who was no defensive whiz, but he wasn't quick enough to take advantage of them.

What happened to Louis is that he lost the edge which made him a special big man. He was just like the others now, except that he was a more skilled boxer, with a still dangerous punch when he could land it.

    I agree.

He was the Everest of heavyweights. Cutting down a third of the height of Everest still leaves a very high mountain.

That's a good summary of what Louis had become by 1950 and perhaps even a few years before. Its mesmerizing to watch the Louis of 1935-1942 and seeing those fast hands and super accurate punches.
