Yeah of course it CAN happen. Fights start standing and its little 4oz gloves with no counts after a knockdown, and boxers are the most accurate and hardest punchers. But the chances are pretty slim really, its not like Ray was actually capable of doing that consistently in MMA.

Mercer was a fat old man when the fight took place. He was no longer a factor in boxing. He went to MMA to make a few bucks off of his name. His ability was already gone.

 

Any sport that allows choking might as well allow biting, hair pulling, scratching and eye gouging too. If you are going to let them fight like little girls, go all the way.
