This thread is just to prove a point. Question is simple; Who is the current linear Welterweight champ according to you? If there's really any at the time.
I thought Floyd is the champ when he beat baldomir, who got it from Judah, Spinks, mayorga, Forrest etc. But then he retires and comeback. Did he ever lose it? I really don't know tbh..
I say Keith Thurman. If anyone wants to argue that Manny is because everyone at 147 at Top Rank has passed around that WBO belt I would like to refer you to May 2nd 2015 when he loss his title to his long standing PPV nemesis and it was stripped or vacated just like the WBC and WBA titles were that Keith was upgraded to and beat a champ for.
There is no lineal champ, but Thurman was the best option available to me. He is most active and beat the best opponents recently of the fighters named in the poll.
When he came back, Mosely was generally seen as the closest thing to lineal champ and Floyd then beat him. The lineal title ended with Floyd retiring. There needs to be a few more fights for a new lineal champion to be created
Nobody. Anyway, lineal titles in this era means absolutely nothing and should NEVER be given weighting over a boxer's 'accomplishment'. Assess their opponents instead.
Lineal titles are a wonderful concept until the man-who-beat-the-man-who-beat-the-man cycle gets broken. Then they become meaningless. The middleweight division is a prime example. Between 1993 and 2001 there's wasn't even a lineal middleweight champion. Would like to see the option WHO CARES added to the poll.
